Monday Commentary: Sheesh!
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
Remember on Mondays on this Commentary, we recap the weekend! Here it is:
#1 – The Blue Jays remarkably swept the L.A. Angels in a four-game set at Rogers Centre and although it means nothing for the ‘going-nowhere’ Blue Jays, manager John Schneider says it’s big to sweep a series, no matter when it happens.
But the Jays are still last place in the A-L East, and 24th out of 30 teams in MLB’s weekly Power Rankings.
Will anybody walk the plank for this forgettable season?
We’ll know in a month.
#2 – Coming out of Week 12 in the CFL, all the home teams won including the Argonauts slipping past the Roughriders 20-19 in Toronto on Thursday.
The winning point came on a rouge (single point) scored on a missed field goal single by the Argos.
It left the Rider Nation and some pundits howling that the rouge needs to be amended.
I have to ask, had the Riders won on a rouge, would they still feel the same way?
Doubtful.
And while I love the CFL and always will, it’s probably the biggest problem I have with the league; they talk about these blemishes, but nothing ever changes nor is done about it.
#3 – The League is still very unpredictable and that’s a big reason why we love it. All four home teams won in Week 12, and that’s coming off a week where all road teams won.
Bring on the Labour Day match-ups.
And #4 – The NFL preseason concluded on Sunday and now the final cutdown is Tuesday. Meanwhile the college football season opened with a barnburner in Ireland!
Last season’s most-talked about team – Florida State University, due to their College Football Playoff snub – lost on a walkoff field goal to the much lower-ranked Georgia Tech.
Now the Seminoles can only afford one more loss the rest of the way if they hope to be in the playoff picture.
Sheesh! Now I know why every game in college football feels like the Grey Cup.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

I like the rouge, however I do not agree with getting a point for the ball going out of bounds. I would love to see the rule changed (some what like the punting rule about when it can fly directly out of bounds) that says you can only get a single point if the ball lands in the end zone or is played by the receiving team. How exciting would that argos/riders play been having to get the ball out of the end zone to preserve a tie!!!!!!! Just a small doable change (Kick-offs in the CFL have no single… Read more »
