MONDAY COMMENTARY – SMILE AND NOD

Rod Pedersen Commentary

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

WE’RE IN A QUITE A SPOT.

WE’VE GOTTA BE AROUND DAY 400 OF THE PANDEMIC, I’D GUESS. I’M NOT SURE – I QUIT COUNTING AROUND 200.

AND I’VE GOTTA SAY I ADMIRE THOSE WHO STILL HAVE THE GAS TO PICK UP THE TORCH AND FIGHT THE FIGHT DAY AFTER DAY.

WHETHER IT’S FIGHTING OVER COVID RESTRICTIONS, THE CFL/XFL MERGER, MARK SCHEIFELE, FULL CROWDS IN VEGAS OR ANY OTHER OF THE MYRIAD OF HOT TOPICS ON THE TABLE, THE ARGUING IS AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH.

BUT I JUST DON’T HAVE THE ENERGY ANYMORE.

A LOT OF IT CAN BE AVOIDED BY SIMPLY AVOIDING SOCIAL MEDIA. I SAW A PROMINENT NATIONAL REPORTER CRITICIZING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS ON TWITTER FOR SELLING THEIR RINK OUT THIS WEEK. SHE THOUGHT IT WAS IRRESPONSIBLE OF THEM.

I JUST BIT MY LIP, AND HONESTLY IT FELT NICE TO JUST LET IT GO.

HOWEVER YOU CAN’T ENTIRELY AVOID IT. MY NEIGHBOUR HUNG HIS HEAD OVER THE FENCE LAST WEEK AND SAID, “SO THE RIDERS ARE PLAYING HUH? I SAW IT ON THE NEWS. THEY’D BETTER, BECAUSE I GOT MY TICKETS!”

I JUST SMILED AND CROSSED MY FINGERS.

I DIDN’T HAVE THE ENERGY TO DEBATE THE PROS AND CONS, NOR THE FACT THE BORDER’S STILL CLOSED, THE PAYCUTS HAVEN’T BEEN AGREED UPON (TO MY KNOWLEDGE), THERE’S NO DISTINCT NUMBER OF WHAT CROWDS WILL BE ALLOWED, THE PROVINCES HAVEN’T CLEARED THE RETURN TO PLAY, AND YADA, YADA, YADA.

IT’S BEST TO JUST SMILE AND NOD.

A LOT OF YOU HAVE PROBABLY BEEN PRACTICING THAT FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. MAYBE YOU’VE BEEN DOING IT YOUR WHOLE LIVES!

BUT IT’S NEW TO ME.

WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME NOW PEACEFUL IT IS???

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

What I witnessed was Social Darwinism in our society. People had choices – adapt or die, get strong physically and mentally or whither away and become shattered. We literally witnessed what people are made of. – I can surmise they are not made by much. This generation is NOT the 1930s Saskatchewan generation trucking through a depression and dust bowl draught with no crop insurance. Yes circumstances can suck, but this is a… Read more »
