WE OPEN THE WEEK WITH SOME CFL ODDS ‘N ENDS COMING OUT OF WEEK 4.

WHERE SHALL WE START?

WORKING BACKWARDS, SUNDAY’S GAME OF THE WEEK IN WINNIPEG HAD A CLASSIC CFL FINISH, AND PROVIDED SOME FLASHBACKS TOO.

ROOKIE BOMBER KICKER MARK LIEGGHIO MISSED A GAME-WINNING FIELD GOAL WITH OVER A MINUTE TO GO BUT GOT A SECOND CHANCE VIA PENALTY. HE MADE IT, AND PROVIDED WINNIPEG THE WINNING POINTS IN AN 18-16 “W” OVER CALGARY.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

THE BOMBERS WENT TO 3-1 WHILE THE STAMPEDERS FELL TO 1-3 BUT ROOKIE CALGARY QUARTERACK JAKE MAIER SET A FRANCHISE RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE COMPLETIONS.

I WAS WRONG ON MAIER, BUT RIGHT ON THE FACT THAT IT WAS FAR TOO EARLY TO WRITE THE EPITAPH FOR THE STAMPS WHEN THEY WERE 0-2.

AND WHO’DA THUNK ANYONE WOULD MAKE PEOPLE FORGET ABOUT BO LEVI MITCHELL?

SATURDAY IN OTTAWA THE REDBLACKS SPOILED THEIR OWN HOME-OPENER BY AGAIN BEING UNABLE TO SCORE AN OFFENSIVE TOUCHDOWN IN A 24-12 LOSS TO THE BC LIONS.

ARE THE LIONS THAT GOOD OR ARE THE REDBLACKS THAT BAD? I’D SUGGEST IT’S A BIT OF BOTH.

AND THE HAMILTON TIGER-CATS PROVED THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE BY WALKING INTO MONTREAL AND BLOWING OUT THE ALOUETTES 27-10 IN THEIR HOME-OPENER.

THE TICATS DID IT WITH BIG PLAYS AND DANE EVANS AT QUARTERBACK. IT SAYS HERE HAMILTON WILL NOT LOOK BACK FROM HERE.

THINGS ARE STABILIZING IN THE CFL, ON THE FIELD, AND GETTING BACK TO NORMAL.

THE RIDERS WERE OFF IN WEEK 4 BUT AT 3-0 AND LEADING ALL THE IMPORTANT STAT CATEGORIES, THEY ARE THE MOST DOMINANT TEAM IN THE CFL.

SUNDAY’S LABOUR DAY CLASSIC WILL PROVE ONCE AND FOR ALL WHO’S THE BEST TEAM IN THE CFL.

FOR A WEEK.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

The Redblacks scored an offensive TD against the Riders. So they have only scored 1 offensive TD in three games.
