MONDAY COMMENTARY – THE FEELS

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

HERE’S SOMETHING ON TODAY’S COMMENTARY THAT WE DON’T HEAR ENOUGH OF; POSITIVITY.

AFTER THE ROUGHRIDERS’ 19-17 VICTORY AT EDMONTON ON FRIDAY, A LOT OF WHAT I HEARD ACROSS THE WHEAT PROVINCE THIS WEEKEND WAS SCORN, RIDICULE AND PESSIMISM OVER THE GREEN & WHITE.

IMAGINE IF THEY’D LOST!

HONESTLY I THINK IT’S A SPILLOVER FROM COVID, AND THE FACT TWITTER & FACEBOOK HAVE BECOME A CONTEST OF “ONE-UPPING” EACH OTHER FOR NEGATIVITY.

WHATEVER.

THAT RIDER WIN UPPED THE CLUB’S RECORD TO 8-4 WHICH MEANS THEY’VE ALREADY HIT MY PRESEASON WIN PROJECTION WITH TWO GAMES TO GO.

FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK CODY FAJARDO LAMENTED AFTER THE GAME THAT THE TEAM GETS NO CREDIT FOR RACKING UP THREE STRAIGHT ROAD WINS, BUT I WISH HE’D EITHER STAY OFF TWITTER OR NOT LET IT BOTHER HIM.

OH WELL. YOU CAN ONLY CONTROL YOURSELF – IN MY CASE THAT’S A FULL-TIME JOB – SO FAJARDO’S GONNA DO WHAT FAJARDO’S GONNA DO.

BUT THE RIDERS HAVE METHODICALLY GONE ABOUT FIXING THE ERRORS WHICH HAVE PLAGUED THEM DURING THIS SEASON. THEY ONLY TOOK THREE PENALTIES FOR 27 YARDS THE OTHER NIGHT. HAS ANYBODY TALKED ABOUT THAT?

THEY ONLY ALLOWED THREE SACKS WHICH CUT LAST WEEK’S NUMBER AT MONTREAL IN HALF. THEY REGISTERED THREE QUARTERBACK TAKEDOWNS OF THEIR OWN.

THEY LOST THE TURNOVER BATTLE AGAINST THE ELKS 1-0, BUT ONLY ONE GIVEAWAY ISN’T TOO SHABBY EITHER. OVERCOMING THAT STAT AND WINNING IS A FEATHER IN THEIR CAP AS WELL.

SATURDAY THEY’RE HOME TO EDMONTON IN THE FINAL HOME REGULAR SEASON OF THE YEAR. THE FORECAST CALLS FOR 1 DEGREE AND A 40 PERCENT CHANCE OF SNOW. THAT’S NOT TOO BAD CONSIDERING THIS IS NORMALLY PLAYOFF TIME AND THERE’S BEEN TIMES WHERE WE’VE NEARLY FROZEN TO DEATH AT GAMES IN SASK THIS TIME OF YEAR.

THE RIDERS ARE AFTER THEIR FOURTH WIN IN A ROW.

WHY DOESN’T IT FEEL LIKE IT?

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

my synopsis of the riders. 1. Oline is below average. 2. Play calling by Maas on offense is below average 3. Fajardo’s play is average, see line item #1 and #2. Punt/kick return is below average. Defense is way above average. Overall if they cannot fix item1,2 & 3, say bye bye to the Grey Cup.

Cody is a young guy and he’ll figure it out. The idea of people pleasing and especially if you’re the QB or Head Coach is a futile exercise. The team is 8-4 coming off no season in 2020 and I would deem this a complete success; all things considered. When it comes to him stressing about Social Media the first thing is to consider the sources and where it’s coming from. It’s coming from studio/bachelor/basement apartments from people who would be winded at the idea of an athletic pursuit. If that stresses him then he needs to decide if professional… Read more »

Oh yeah! a two point win over the lowest of the CFL low Edmonton Elks is nothing to be proud of, certainly not from this guy. The riders are not an elite team by any standards. As for corn dog, he has his own podium over at 3downnation, he’s taken over that channel and he’s sickening with his constant whining.
