MONDAY COMMENTARY: THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

IT’S A BRAND NEW WEEK AND TIME FOR THE GOOD, THE GREAT AND THE UGLY.

THE GOOD IS THE RETURN OF THE NFL. WE ALREADY DISSECTED THURSDAY’S SEASON-OPENER WITH THE BUCCANEERS DOWNING MY COWBOYS, SO LET’S LOOK AT THE REST OF THE WEEK 1 GAMES.

AARON RODGERS ABSORBED HIS WORST DEFEAT EVER AS HIS PACKERS WERE DESTROYED 38-3 BY THE SAINTS. IT’S THE BEGINNING OF THE END THERE.

MORE OF THE SAME IN NEW ENGLAND; NO BRADY, NO WINS. THE PATRIOTS FELL 17-16 TO THE DOLPHINS. AND SAM DARNOLD EXACTED REVENGE ON THE TEAM WHO GAVE UP ON HIM, AS CAROLINA UPENDED THE JETS 19-14.

COVERING THE NFL HAS LITERALLY ENDLESS POSSIBLITIES AND TWO HOURS PER DAY ON THE ROD PEDERSEN SHOW AREN’T ENOUGH TIME.

THE GREAT IS THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS.

LOURDES GURRIEL JR AND TEOSCAR HERNANDEZ EACH HIT A GRAND SLAM AND VLADDY SLUGGED HIS MAJOR LEAGUE-LEADING 44TH HOMERUN IN TORONTO’S 22-7 ROUT OF BALTIMORE. IT WAS TWO RUNS SHY OF A FRANCHISE RECORD.

THEY OPEN THE WEEK IN A WILDCARD PLAYOFF SPOT BUT TONIGHT HOST THE DIVISION-LEADING RAYS. THE JAYS HAVE A LOTTA GAMES LEFT.

AND THE UGLY IS THE REACTION TO THE ROUGHRIDERS LOSING 33-9 IN THE BANJO BOWL. FOLKS, TWO LOSSES DO NOT A SEASON MAKE.

IF YOU SPLIT THE SEASON INTO THIRDS, THE RIDERS FINISHED THE OPENING THIRD AT 3-2 AND HAVE A SHARE OF SECOND-PLACE. IF THE PLAYOFFS BEGAN TODAY, THEY’D BE HOSTING THE WESTERN SEMIFINAL.

THIS EARLY TIME OF THE SEASON IS FOR LESSON-LEARNING AND FINDING OUT WHO YOU ARE AS A TEAM.

PROVIDED THE RIDERS CAME OUT OF THE BACK-TO-BACK WITH WINNIPEG HEALTHY ENOUGH, THEY’LL BE ABLE TO TURN THIS AROUND AS EARLY AS FRIDAY’S HOME DATE AGAINST TORONTO.

BUT IT DOES KEEP NAGGING ME THAT THE RIDERS AND ZACH COLLAROS COULDN’T HAVE MADE SOMETHING WORK, PARTICULARLY SINCE HE’S 9-1 AS WINNIPEG’S STARTER.

IN THE END, ZACH WASN’T HEALTHY ENOUGH NOR AVAILABLE WHEN IT MATTERED MOST HERE. YOU CAN’T BLAME SASKATCHEWAN FOR MOVING ON WITHOUT HIM.

SOMETIMES THINGS JUST DON’T WORK OUT NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY, NOR HOW BAD YOU WANT IT.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

The Miami/New England game was must watch. If New England is losing it will not be for long. Both starters were Alabama national champion QBs with Mac Jones backing up Tua and keep in mind that QB room also had Jalen Hurts. Mac Jones will be the answer. He has a Masters degree which illustrated how dumb Cam Newton was as it was Jones teaching him the playbook. If those reports are to be believed it’s just a matter of time. Aaron Rodgers if he thinks he’s as smart as he is, which he is not, then he’ll be in… Read more »
