MONDAY COMMENTARY – THE GREAT, THE GOOD & THE UGLY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

TODAY I’M GOING TO INTRODUCE A NEW FEATURE CALLED “THE GREAT, THE GOOD, AND THE UGLY”.

IT MAY ONLY LAST FOR TODAY, BUT THAT’S OKAY.

THE GREAT COMING OUT OF THE WEEKEND IS HOW DOMINANT THE ROUGHRIDERS LOOKED IN THEIR 23-10 PULVERIZING OF THE OTTAWA REDBLACKS SATURDAY AT MOSAIC STADIUM.

I DON’T HAVE ALL THE STATS IN FRONT OF ME, BUT THAT DOESN’T MATTER. WHEN THE GAME WAS OVER, TSN’S ROD SMITH SAID “THE RIDERS MAY NOT THINK THEY’RE PERFECT, BUT THEIR RECORD IS.”

IT’S TRUE. ENTERING WEEK 4, SASKATCHEWAN HAS THE CFL’S ONLY UNBEATEN RECORD AT 3-0.

STAR QUARTERBACK CODY FAJARDO IS NOW 10-1 AT HOME AND HAS THE PROVINCE IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND. I SAW HIM SATURDAY MORNING AND CAN CONFIRM – HE’S THE REAL DEAL.

THE GOOD WAS SUNDAY NIGHT’S NFL PRESEASON GAME BETWEEN THE CHARGERS AND 49ERS IN L-A. SAN FRAN WON THE GAME 15-10 ON NFL NETWORK BUT IT WAS QUITE A DISPLAY OF CANADIAN TALENT.

TORONTO AREA’S JOSHUA PALMER CAUGHT A TOUCHDOWN PASS FOR THE CHARGERS WHILE TEAMMATE TEVAUGHN CAMPBELL – A FORMER U OF R RAM – SNAGGED AN INTERCEPTION. THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE OTHER CANADIAN ON THE FIELD (LINEBACKER AMEN OGBONGBEMIGA) BUT THOSE TWO FOUND THE STAT SHEET.

AND THE UGLY, UNFORTUNATELY, WAS THE NEWS WE WOKE UP TO MONDAY MORNING THAT THIS WEEK’S EDMONTON/TORONTO CFL GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO A COVID OUTBREAK ON THE ELKS.

THIS WILL BE THE NEWS OF THE DAY ACROSS THE LAND, I PREDICT. THE QUESTIONING, THE IN-FIGHTING, AND THE HAND-WRINGING WILL BE AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH, JUST WHEN WE WERE HOPING THE WORST OF COVID WAS BEHIND US.

I’VE SEEN IT IN THE REAL WORLD OVER THE PAST WHILE, AND NOW IT’S SPILLED OVER INTO SPORTS. AGAIN.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

As far as I’m concerned there is no need for postponing.

The hard and fast rule should be a complete forfeiture of the game resulting in a loss. There should also be a forfeiture of a weekly game cheque to the Elks, and a substantial fine which in turn goes to Toronto to cover their weekly payroll.

These dummies have vaccines readily available, and if they get Covid that’s on them. The 36 guys ready and available can let their teammates know what impact this had on livlihoods.

They get absolutely no sympathy from me.

You know double-vaxed people can still get COVID, right? It’s far less likely to require hospitalization, but you can still get it.

Sask Roughriders, might they be the Montreal Expos_strike) of the CFL? Whereby they have their season canceled due to the India Covid19 variant. Looking good at 3-0 but cancelled out.
