MONDAY RECAP: WEEK 2 CFL RECAP, BREAKING NEWS, HOCKEY & CEBL TALK!
We opened the lid on a brand new week and recapped a tremendous weekend on Monday’s Episode #550 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Week 2 CFL recap – Bombers & Riders look great!, 2) NFL preseason notes – Chicago’s Justin Fields is the talk of the NFL, 3) The CEBL is welcoming its 8th franchise; the Scarborough Shooting Stars, 4) The Blue Jays avoid a sweep courtesy the long ball in Seattle, 5) Hockey notes, and 6) CFL attendance (why is it such a big deal?).
- Regina Pats and Hockey Canada star Connor Bedard joined the show from Vancouver. The WHL’s first Exceptional Player recapped what a wild year it’s been for him including playing in Sweden, leading the Dub in scoring before leaving the Pats, his play in the World Under 18 Championship, and the Hockey Canada Development camp earlier this month. Connor reported he’s kept busy this summer playing in a roller hockey league in the Vancouver area, and was eager to know how Rod’s summer has been! Regarding his dazzling moves, the 16-year old said he’s spent countless hours perfecting his craft. Bedard said he’s fallen in love with Regina sports fans, would love to attend a Rider game, and will report to the Queen City on August 31 to open Pats training camp.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which 0-2 CFL team is a mirage (better than their record) – Hamilton, Calgary or Edmonton? At press time, the Ticats were leading.
- In the Second Half Kickoff for CORR Grain we went back and forth with viewers on Week 2 CFL games, what Bo Levi Mitchell’s injury means for the Stamps and the CFL (Farhan Lalji reports he’ll miss this week’s game and perhaps longer), and the impact on sports betting in the CFL.
- Sauga 960 Radio’s Mike Richards joined the show from Mississauga for a wide-ranging chat and he opened up by blistering the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for not showing up in Saturday’s 30-8 loss at Saskatchewan. He did however, applaud the CFL for its Return To Play and said spending last season without CFL football was bad enough. He couldn’t handle it going away altogether! Richards also dabbled in the Blue Jays saying he can’t see them winning the pennant but predicted they will in the years ahead, and said Toronto is the worst football market on the continent.
- The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and we kibitzed with viewers further on the Bo Levi injury (Rod said it’s terrible for the CFL and hopes it’s not too serious), a little more on CEBL expansion, and revelled in our excellent trip to Winnipeg on the weekend and the wonderful hospitality from the Bombers, Jets and World Junior Lacrosse Championship!
