MONDAY RUNDOWN: A HOCKEY MONDAY!

We cracked the lid on a brand new week with Episode #346 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Week 7 NFL takeaways including the Cowboys, Titans, Falcons (our teams) and Seahawks all losing!, 2) Monday Night Football features the Bears at Rams, 3) The L.A. Dodgers lead the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in the World Series, 4) The Patriots are 2-4 while the Buccaneers are 5-2. Tom’s winning, 5) Weekend Junior Hockey wrap, and 6) It’s a monumental final week of the CFL SIM regular season!
  • TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger joined the show from his home office in Toronto for a recap of the NHL’s GM meetings on Friday. He said there’s not much to report due to uncertainty around Covid but feels a January 1 start date is optimistic. He also examined the 2021 World Juniors in Edmonton and said the plan is still for the tournament to be held although there’s uncertainty about the arrival of European teams. It remains a sticky situation. Dreger feels there’s a very good chance of there being a Canadian Division for the 2021 season but the border closure remains a huge obstacle. He also discussed the worst-case scenario of a $1.8 billion shortfall for the NHL next season and how that will impact salaries.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which quarterback should the Dallas Cowboys acquire to save their season – Colin Kaepernick, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Ryan or Other/No One? At press time, Ryan Fitzpatrick was leading.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Sportsnet Hometown Hockey host Tara Slone from Toronto. She reflected on the various stops the show has made over the years and said in each place, residents are eager to point out top players who’ve come from the area. Tara also discussed her new project Top Of Her Game where she profiles women in sports and broadcasting. She’s proud of her role as a symbol of female sportscasters.
  • Exceptional Player Connor Bedard joined the show from Sweden and said he was given the green light to play in games by WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. He’s played in a few and said he’s happy with his performance, but admitted he’s been guilty of some glaring turnovers. There hasn’t been a language barrier since his teammates all speak English however his coach addresses the team in Swedish. Connor said the coach breaks it down in English afterwards. Bedard feels he’s had no trouble skating with the 18-year olds but the 20-year olds are at another level. The Vancouver product said he hasn’t had time to be homesick but has his plane ticket booked to return to Canada in November and start skating with the Pats in December.
