MONDAY RUNDOWN: ARASH & WILL BLACKMON JOIN PLUS EGGER PAYS THE PIPER!

We tackled all the hottest sports topics on Episode #407 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked it off with the Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Super Bowl LV features the Buccaneers and Chiefs!, 2) NFC Championship: Buccaneers 31-Packers 26, AFC Championship game: Chiefs 38-Bills 24, 3) What’s with the thousands of fans at these games?, 4) Sunday featured 11 NHL games and among the winners were the Leafs, Oilers, Penguins, Ducks and Golden Knights, 5) Leftovers from the Laine/Dubois trade, and 6) Commissioner Randy Ambrosie’s letter to fans.
  • NFL/CFL/NFL Network alum Will Blackmon joined he show from Orange County to discuss A LOT of things. He clarified his comments in a recent interview where he said Regina is exactly like Green Bay in that it smells like farm, and the football games are always sold-out. He said it wasn’t an insult. The 12-year NFL veteran then went into great detail on his short stint with the Roughriders and how he felt he was jerked around by the coaching staff. He felt, as a Super Bowl champion, he came in without ego but wasn’t treated fairly. It was fascinating insight into the Chris Jones era in Riderville. He also recapped Sunday’s NFL conference title games and marvelled at the longevity of Tom Brady.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by Sportsnet’s Arash Madani who marvelled at the coaching blunder by Green Bay’s Matt Lafleur near the end of their loss to the Buccaneers. Normally Arash would be covering the Super Bowl but Covid has nixed that. Arash said he’ll take the Chiefs by 3 in two weeks. He also promoted his video essay on Sportsnet regarding the 1-year anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s death, and his daughter Gianna.
  • If you’ve been following this blog, you’ll know ESPN 1530 Cincinnati sports talk host Mo Egger scorched RP on Friday for mocking the Bengals uniform change. Egger returned the favour (of free publicity) by joining our show from Cinci. Mo said he meant no harm and Rod said he found the situation hilarious. They discussed the Bengals, the barren sports landscape during the pandemic, and Egger said he enjoyed Canada when he visited Toronto for the International Bowl. He agreed to join the show regularly as our Bengals insider.
  • Due to the fact Egger referred to RP as “Some guy in Canada”, the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How do you refer to RP? – Voice of the Riders, Host of the RP Show, Some Guy In Canada or Other? At press time, over 60% voted for Voice of the Riders.
  • News broke near the end of the show that Scott Milanovich has resigned as head coach of the Edmonton Football Team. RP quipped that Milanovich was Edmonton’s coach for over a year but never coached a game! He said it looks bad on the CFL, but it’s not the CFL’s fault.
