MONDAY RUNDOWN: BABCOCK, NHL TALK, RACING & NFL!

We had a lot to dissect on Monday’s Episode #425 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Mike Babcock has been hired to coach the U of S Mens Hockey team, 2) Weekend NHL leftovers (Lake Tahoe wasn’t a win), 3) Scotties talk, 4) Fan Controlled Football League Week 2 (It’s AFL meets WWE), 5) The Raptors are on fire even without Kyle Lowry, and 6) The AJHL announces its Return To Play with 3-team pods.
  • Rod admonished Hockey Night In Canada for not covering the Babcock story more and viewers suggested HNIC doesn’t cover university hockey? That sent RP into a tirade saying Babcock is the biggest name in NHL coaching for the past 20 years and anyone who doesn’t see that is “obtuse”.
  • Race car driver Amber Balcaen – a Winnipeg product and fiance of Rider player Jordan Reaves – joined the show from North Carolina to announce her new contract on a NASCAR circuit. It’s a 40-race schedule beginning later this month. She reflected on her fiery crash in 2020 and the 2 1/2 month recovery process (only briefly did she consider retiring). Amber is a motivational speaker as well and she discussed her inspiring story.
  • The Viewer Takeover segment was spicy with all kinds of discussion on Mike Babcock and various NHL topics including who will be the first coach to be fired? Rod said if it’s not Calgary’s Geoff Ward, then who will it be?
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: What are your thoughts on the Babcock hiring at the U of S – Good Move or Bad Move? At press time over 75% of respondents said it’s a good move.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and were joined by Zig Fracassi of Sirius/XM NFL Radio in New York. Zig discussed the top NFL stories including the Houston Texans refusing to trade QB Deshaun Watson, possible landing spots for J.J. Watt (Zig figures it’ll be Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Buffalo or Green Bay), and the future at the Dallas Cowboys QB position. Fracassi figures, at worst, Dak Prescott will sign another franchise tag for the 2021 season.
  • Regina Rebels U13 female hockey team coach Nathan Strueby joined the show to discuss the team’s attempt to win the Chevy Good Deeds Cup voting, and the club’s various community activities and practice schedule in the pandemic.
