I’ve said it many times; that no matter the game, you can always find some sort of intriguing storyline which makes the match-up compelling.

Super Bowl 57 is no different.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs advanced on Sunday, and will meet in the NFL championship game two weeks from now in Glendale, AZ.

The confetti had barely hit the ground from Sunday’s conference championship games before the stats, breakdowns and storylines were unveiled.

For me, the most historic is that this is the first match-up of two black starting quarterbacks in Super Bowl history.

Really? At first glance that sounds preposterous but I’ll take their word for it and save myself the time of looking it up.

Philly’s Jalen Hurts versus KC’s Patrick Mahomes in this historic match-up. The pair has made history before even taking the field.

And for Mahomes’ Chiefs, it’s their third Super Bowl appearance in five years with a record of 1-1 so far. I see it written that people don’t like Mahomes, saying that he’s cocky.

Pro Tip: Confident people intimidate not-so-confident people.

Carry on Patrick.

And then there are the Kelce brothers; Chiefs tightend Travis and Eagles centre Jason, set to oppose each other for the first time in the playoffs.

Kansas City coach Andy Reid faces his former team, the one he led to Super Bowl 39.

And finally there’s the money line. It didn’t take long for the Eagles to be installed as 2.5-point favourites by our official betting partner and sportsbook Bet Regal.

There’s plenty to talk about! Maybe that’s why the NFL has scheduled two weeks between games.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
