We cracked the lid on a brand new week with Episode #303 of The RP Show, Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes recapped the weekend in sports with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) CFL news! Brett Lauther, Dakoda Shepley, McLeod Bethel-Thompson and Sergio Castillo are the first CFL players to opt out of their contracts, 2) Will there be a 2021 CFL season?, 3) The Golden Knights, Bruins and Stars are all up 1-0 in Round 2, 4) The Lehner/Fleury controversy in Vegas, 5) NFL notes: Earl Thomas is looking for a new home and Mike McCarthy is talking Super Bowl in Dallas, and 6) Raptors are off to Round 2 and the Blue Jays wrap up their series at Tampa.
  • RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show mid-workout in Toronto. He figures Earl Thomas will land in Dallas but feels Mike McCarthy has now jinxed the Cowboys. Tori said McCarthy did the same thing when the pair was in Green Bay together, jinxing a 15-1 season. CFL linebacker Micah Awe was watching the show in Texas and asked Tori if he’d critique his film. Tori obliged and said he does it for tons of pro players, also wishing he’d have reached out to vets when he was a young guy.
  • During Game 1 on Game+ TV news broke that the CFL has unveiled its Fan Base fundraising campaign. It created a back-and-forth with viewers over how successful the campaign will be. For $349 CDN plus tax, fans can have their name engraved on a stand for the Grey Cup trophy.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who has you more excited these days – the Blue Jays or Raptors? At press time, the Raptors had around 70% of the vote. RP said if both teams are playing at the same time, he’ll opt for the Blue Jays while Dupes is all-in on the Raptors.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Stampeders great Randy Chevrier. He went deep on next-steps for the CFL and said more work needs to be done ingratiating the players with the community. The Montreal product and former Dallas Cowboy told tales of his time with the Eskimos, Roughriders and Stampeders. The long-snapper figures the first step for the CFL will be building a better relationship with its players.
  • Former Washington Capital and current La Range Ice Wolves Head Coach & GM Kevin “Killer” Kaminski – the reigning SJHL Coach of the Year – joined the show from Saskatoon. He said the Ice Wolves have been running camps and getting ready for the October 9 SJHL start date. Killer offered his take on the Stanley Cup Playoffs saying the Canucks are playing right into the Golden Knights’ hands and said karma bit the Capitals for letting head coach Barry Trotz get away to the Islanders. Killer also advised young hockey players to stay in shape and get ready for camps. “If you’re not working, you should be in the gym and on the ice,” Kaminski instructed.
