MONDAY RUNDOWN: CRAIG BUTTON, RICH SUTTER & CFL TALK!

BUTTON

We cracked the lid on a brand new week on The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – with Episode #375 on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup for the Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Week 13 NFL Notes – Darren’s Titans and Producer Clark’s Falcons lost, and Rod expects his Cowboys to lose to the Ravens on Tuesday, 2) RP’s list of Top 10 CFL free agents, 3) A Connor Bedard prediction (Rod said it should be a point-per-game and explained why), 4) Are the NY Jets coaching to lose?, 5) Is Eagles QB Carson Wentz really that bad?, and 6) A Monday Night Football doubleheader featuring Washington at Pittsburgh followed by Buffalo at San Francisco.
  • A viewer said all the NFL talk is a disservice to the Canadian viewers of the show and Rod said the NFL is playing, while the CFL is not. This would be a theme throughout the show.
  • TSN hockey analyst Craig Button joined the show from his home in Calgary just prior to a workout. He discussed Team Canada’s World Junior tryout camp in Red Deer and explained that the camp was so long due to the possibility of positive Covid tests, which eventually happened. Button said teams from other countries will begin arriving in Edmonton on Sunday, and that IIHF officials are taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the tournament takes place. Craig predicted a Canada-Russia gold medal game. Button was Rod’s Dad’s boss for 15-20 years with the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars and Craig told many stories of Jim Pedersen, and how thorough he was as a scout. Regarding the NFL talk on the show, Craig said there is no bigger supporter of the CFL in Canada than Rod and if anyone disagrees, he’s prepared to fight him! Regarding a prediction for Connor Bedard’s rookie season with the Pats, Button predicted 0.75-0.80 points per game.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by hockey analyst Rich Sutter. Rich went deep into Canada’s World Junior camp, and also predicts the tournament will come off as planned. He answered questions from viewers about Canada’s roster and feels a cutdown will likely be coming soon.
  • News broke during the show that the NY Jets have fired defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, and the BC Lions have named Rick Campbell and Neil McEvoy as Co-GMs. The panel discussed these moves and RP stated that the Lions organization is filled with great people, so he wonders why they’ve had such struggles since Wally Buono stepped down.
  • The popular Viewer Takeover feature spanned two segments and the crew debated with viewers CFL free agency, Week 13 in the NFL and the just-announced Floyd Mayweather-Logan Paul boxing match.
