MONDAY RUNDOWN: DAVIS SANCHEZ, JUNIOR A TALK AND MORE!
We recapped a busy weekend and looked ahead on Monday’s Episode #455 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Weekend NHL leftovers (are the Leafs going to win the Stanley Cup?), 2) The Blue Jays win their season-opening series at the Yankees, 3) Dub Hub – Brandon and Saskatoon are tied for 1st and the Pats face the Warriors at 4 pm Monday on AccessNow TV, 4) Former CFL Commissioner Larry Smith drops truth bombs on TSN Montreal radio, 5) The March Madness final is Monday night and Moose is 40 minutes away from winning thousands!, and 6) It’s Masters Monday. Who’s your pick to win at Augusta?
- CFL on TSN analyst and NFL/CFL alum Davis Sanchez joined the show from a Toronto golf course fairway and delivered three key points – 1) He’d love the CFL to stay the way it is but said it appears that’s not sustainable so he’d support a merger with the XFL, 2) No matter what the ratio needs to stay in place for the future of Canadian players. He admitted he’d never have made the NFL if it wasn’t for the CFL, and 3) Too much focus on the XFL could very well mean there won’t be a CFL season this year, and therefore current CFL players won’t get paid.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which Scotia North Division team will be the most active buyer at the NHL trade deadline – Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg or Edmonton? At press time, the Jets were leading by a nose.
- In Hour 2 and the Second Half Kickoff we got deep into convos with viewers over the CFL/XFL situation, the plight of the Calgary Flames, Masters talk and more. U.S. viewers were very inquisitive on CFL business and Rod’s background in hockey.
- Okotoks Oilers AJHL broadcaster Gino De Paoli – a former play-by-play voice in White Court & Melfort – joined the show from Southern Alberta to talk about the BCHL’s potential split from the CJHL. He feels the notion’s been around for years and feels it could happen but doesn’t believe any Alberta teams will join them. RP said he hears differently. They discussed Return To Play with various AJHL teams, and the potential of the BCHL becoming a northern division of the USHL. Gino identifies himself as a Stampeders fan and said he’s all for a merger if that’s what saves the CFL. He just wants there to be pro football in Canada and loves games at McMahon Stadium.
- Moose unveiled the Dupont Media brand which his brother, a welder, made. While some viewers have volunteered to be branded, Dupes said it’s unlikely that’ll ever happen.
