We cracked the lid on a brand new week on Monday’s Episode #535 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Olympic weekend – why would anyone want to get rid of the Olympics?, 2) CFL training camps enter Week 3, 3) CFL Notes – Montreal releases Naaman Roosevelt, Calgary signs Calvin McCarty and Bo Levi Mitchell will miss some time with soreness, 4) NHL Draft leftovers – another great draft for the WHL!, 5) NFL camps open this week, and the latest on Aaron Rodgers, and 6) The Blue Jays open a key 4-game series at Boston,
  • NHL great Ron Duguay joined the show from St. Augustine, FL for a wide-ranging chat. He’s been following the Olympics and cheering for Canada (he’s a Sudbury product), and has been keenly interested in Beach Volleyball. Duguay examined the industry that is the Olympics in America saying, “Wherever there’s money to be had, money will be poured into it”. Ron also discussed the New York Rangers’ hiring of head coach Gerard Gallant and explained the pair played together in Detroit. He’s a fan of the hiring. Duguay also answered plenty of viewer questions including how close he came to playing for the Winnipeg Jets, opting for a full-length fur coat in the 1980s, and when & why he cut his trademark long hair? (He did it 20 years ago at the request of his agent).
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: We’ve set the over/under on Canadian medals at the Olympics at 20.5. What are you taking? At press time close to 60% of respondents took the under.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for the Four Seasons Sports Palace we went around CFL training camps and viewers discussed the backup QB battle behind Bo Levi Mitchell, the wealth of talent at receiver for Montreal, and more. Viewers in Montreal and Winnipeg invited the RP Show out for live shows in August!
  • Nate Ewell of College Hockey Inc. joined the show to discuss the huge weekend for the NCAA’s Michigan Wolverines at the NHL Draft and stated it was a bit of a surprise because the team didn’t have a complete season. He predicted #1 pick Owen Power will be the NHL’s next great thing, gave his thoughts on Seattle’s expansion draft and predicted a landing spot for Jack Eichel (he favours Boston).
  • The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and we debated more CFL & NHL items including Montreal taking controversial player Logan Mailloux in Round 1 of the NHL Draft. Rod said he won’t defend Logan’s actions, but is an advocate for second chances.
