MONDAY RUNDOWN: NAYLOR BRINGS THE GOODS!

It was another newsworthy day on Episode #555 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A Covid outbreak with the Elks has caused the postponement of Thursday’s Edmonton/Toronto CFL game (a lot of questions remain!), 2) Week 3 CFL recap, 3) NFL Preseason Week 2 recap, 4) Canada’s off Monday at the Women’s World Hockey Championship and the USA is 3-0, 5) The Edmonton Stingers repeat as CEBL champions, beating Niagara 101-65 in Sunday’s final, and 6) The Blue Jays fall 5-3 to the White Sox and have lost six of eight.
  • TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor joined the show to discuss the Edmonton Covid news and revealed that it’s not known how many players tested positive, nor what the Elks’ vaccination percentage is. Dave admitted that it’ll be tough to reschedule the game given the CFL’s shortened schedule and that there are some very concerned people in the CFL head office Monday morning. Naylor got serious and said no matter how you feel about vaccinations, there would be no CFL season if not for the vaccine. He and Rod agreed that nobody could’ve predicted that so many players and staff would refuse the vaccine, and that it’s created a lot of problems. Regarding the actual games, Dave’s been impressed with the quality of play and unpredictably through three weeks!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the Manscaped Balls Out Player of the Week in the CFL – Greg Ellingson, James Wilder Jr., Jake Maier or D.J. Foster? At press time, J.W.J. was leading.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for CORR Grain, Rod related the story of a moose running into his car in downtown Regina on Saturday while RedBlacks Voice A.J. Jakubec was a passenger! The guys also debated the weekend’s CFL and NFL results, and America’s domination in international women’s hockey.
  • ESPN 1530 Cincinnati’s Mo Egger joined the show to discuss the contending Reds, star Reds slugger Joey Votto (a Toronto product), and went into a deep dive on the Bengals who lost 17-13 to Washington Friday night. Mo feels the Bengals won’t have a shot at competing with Cleveland and Baltimore in the AFC North but could reasonably expect to surpass Pittsburgh. Egger also examined the use of veterans by NFL head coaches in the preseason, and expectations of Bengals star QB Joe Burrow.

Edmonton Elks team president Presson now reports 9 positive Covid19 cases, 5 on Sunday, 4 on Monday with constant observation ongoing as also with the BC Lions. Presson also reports the Elks arn’t the lowest unvaccinated club as 2 other teams have lower unvaccinated player numbers, the threshold being 85%.

CFL Covid19 vaccinated enter onto premise (game day) policies. Two CFL teams have not implemented proof of vaccination upon entry to games, Montreal, Saskatchewan. Seven CFL Clubs have now mandated vaccination a prerequisite to attend games on their premises. Unvaccinated people now asking for refunds. Wow!

Why oh why oh why are the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL not putting into place a policy that only allows the vaccinated in on game day, whynoh why? Good golly they need to follow suit as other CFL clubs have done with instituting such rules at their playing venues. I guess it’s best to stay inside, watch the NFL on the tele, watch real football.
