MONDAY RUNDOWN: RIDERS’ MIKE EDEM & MORE!!

IMG_5470

We were back at it Monday with Episode #471 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – with some big football guests and breaking news! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Weekend NHL leftovers (the Wild are the 3rd team to clinch, Andrew Shaw retires & more), 2) Big games Monday night – Montreal at Calgary, Vancouver at Ottawa & Edmonton at Winnipeg, 3) The Blue Jays are winning series. Is Canada noticing?, 4) It’s NFL Draft Week – beware of Fake News, 5) Dub Hub – Brandon wins the Subway Cup & they’ve started playoffs in the Q!, and 6) CFL Notes – the Canadian College Draft is on the horizon.
  • 7-year CFL defensive back – and Roughriders veteran – Mike Edem joined the show and despite massive connection problems, it was a tremendously insightful interview! Edem discussed his close friendship with Golden Knights prospect and Winnipeg ICE star Peyton Krebs (they share the same trainer). The 31-year old Edem said the 19-year old Krebs challenged him to a footrace and although he beat him, Peyton was close! Mike discussed being born in Nigeria, moving to Brampton and taking up football at age 12, and going #3 overall to the Alouettes in the 2013 CFL Draft. During the pandemic, Edem has gotten married, got his shoulder repaired and started his company TimeOut Athletics in an effort to give back to the game.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which league will play a game first in Canada – CFL or CEBL? At press time, over 60% of respondents opted for the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
  • News broke during that show that Winnipeg Jets star Nik Ehlers is “out for the season”. Upon closer look, he’s out for the remainder of the regular season but head coach Paul Maurice hopes he’ll be ready for the playoffs. RP said to beware of the wording of these reports. This is NOT a season-ending injury.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we engaged in a back-and-forth with viewers about the lack of coverage by the major networks of Canadian leagues such as the CEBL, CPL, CHL and even the CFL & NLL. Rod stated that the networks’ mandate is to push their properties such as NBA, MLB, NHL, etc. but we’ll always be here to cover the Canadian leagues. Viewers asked if Game+ would get into broadcasting Canadian league games but RP and Dupes agreed that’s above their pay grade.
  • University of Tulsa running back Corey Taylor II joined the show as he prepares for this week’s NFL Draft. The RP Show airs on Game+ across Oklahoma on the TDS Cable System. Taylor reflected on his senior season (4.9 yards-per-carry) and how Covid interruptions prevented him from getting into a groove. Corey anticipates being selected on Friday and said his favourite NFL team is whichever franchise drafts him! He took a multitude of questions from viewers and was a very popular guest!
  • RP and Moose Dupont Faced Off on whether 7-inning no-hitters should go into the record books because Arizona’s Madison Bumgarner recorded one on Sunday against the Braves. Dupes feels that they should because this is a new mandated MLB rule for doubleheaders but Rod said they shouldn’t, reasoning that now they’d have to go back through history and award no-hitters to every pitcher who had one blown in the 8th or 9th innings! The Face Off is for UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.
  • Monday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook/YouTube pages, you can catch the replay at 4:00 pm on Game+, listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
  • See you at 10 am MT/12 pm ET Tuesday on Game+ and YouTube/Facebook Live!
