MONDAY RUNDOWN: ROYALTY IN THE BUNKER

We cracked the lid on a brand new week and recapped a busy weekend on Episode #466 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Sunday NHL leftovers (Was Leafs/Canucks the only game on Sunday???), 2) RP clarified a Friday quote about the CFL “distracting” us with the Global and Canadian College Drafts. He meant to say they’re “teasing” us with appetizers when all we want is THE STEAK!, 3) CFL icon Russ Jackson fears Canadian football will die if there’s a merger with the XFL, 4) Dub Hub activity, 5) The Blue Jays split with the Royals and have Monday off, and 6) A weekend recap of the RBC Heritage, Nascar and the Raptors’ win over OKC.
  • NHL great and Columbus Blue Jackets scout Rich Sutter joined the bunker for a 40-minute chat. He’s in the Sweatpants Capital scouting the WHL East for the Jackets. He answered a wide-range of hockey questions including the future of the Flames (he said every team has problems so he’d prefer to steer clear), his brother Brent stepped down as coach of the Red Deer Rebels due to having too much on his plate, his nephew Brandon’s entire family came down with Covid and thankfully they’ve all recovered, and much, much more. Sutter said the future of the WHL is incredibly bright with all the underage stars coming up and said fans should snap up season tickets as soon as they’re able!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the NHL’s most underrated player – Nik Ehlers, Alex Barkov, Sebastian Aho or Bo Horvat? At press time, Ehlers was leading by a nose.
  • Dupes returned for the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff and they delved deeply into the current status of the CFL with training camps scheduled to open in less than a month. Viewers wondered why the Federal budget is so tied to the future of the CFL so the panel debated the funding issue, and more merger possibilities.
  • RP and Dupes Faced Off for UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant on Russ Jackson’s comments on the future of Canadian football. Moose figures it wouldn’t die immediately, but eventually it would with youth organizations opting for 4-down ball. Rod agreed.
  • Winnipeg Jets colour commentator Jamie Thomas joined the show to examine all things Jets. He figures it’s key to finish first in the Scotia North Division and that’s what the Jets are striving for. He revealed that forward Blake Wheeler is close to returning from a head injury suffered at the elbow of Brady Tkachuk. Thomas said Winnipeggers are getting excited at a Stanley Cup Playoff run. J-T also talked about covering the Ticats for TSN 1150 Hamilton and says The Hammer is Ontario’s best CFL market.
  • We closed off the show with Viewer Takeover discussing all of the above topics with viewers across the continent.
