MONDAY RUNDOWN: THE 500TH EPISODE!
We celebrated another milestone on Monday as we aired Episode #500 with some very special guests! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Weekend NHL leftovers, 2) Julio Jones is traded to the Tennessee Titans, 3) The Mayweather/Paul fight, 4) CFL weekend leftovers (is June 14 a drop dead date?), 5) The Blue Jays open the week six games back of Tampa for the AL East lead, and 6) Any other sports musings?
- Friend of the RP Show Phil Pritchard – the Keeper of the Cup – joined us from his Burlington, ON home and had a special guest: The Stanley Cup! Phil discussed the Stanley Cup Playoffs and said his favourite series have been the Canadian match-ups but he’s also been intrigued with the Tampa/Florida and Colorado/Vegas affairs. Pritchard went into great detail of celebrating with the Washington Capitals in Las Vegas when they won the Cup in 2018. He explained his role of traveling with the Cup and reflected on last year’s bubble presentation in Edmonton. Phil answered several questions from interested viewers.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Did you watch the Mayweather/Paul fight? At press time over 90% of respondents said no.
- In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we were joined by Vegas Golden Knights insider Gary Lawless who explained how the Knights have battled back to tie their series with the Avalanche at 2-2. He agreed with coach Peter Deboer’s decision to start Robin Lehner in Game 1 since they likely weren’t going to win anyway. They were out of gas from the Minnesota series and played like it. Gary explained how Vegas has contained Nathan McKinnon and criticized the “soft” call in OT of Game 2 which led to an Avalanche victory. Regarding a CFL comment, Gary shrugged there’s not much to say.
- Sportsnet’s Arash Madani was next up and he immediately delved into the Julio Jones trade and admitted he’s loving the Aaron Rodgers drama since he’s a staunch fan of the rival Minnesota Vikings. Madani then discussed the 2021 season for the Blue Jays and feels expectations are too high for this young squad. He feels the Jekyll & Hyde nature of the club should be expected. Regarding the CFL, Arash said he “doesn’t buy” what the CFL is selling regarding a June 14 drop dead date and expects the season to be pushed back.
- The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and we discussed fun moments over the past 500 shows and viewers marvelled at RP’s 2013 Grey Cup ring. He put it on after Phil Pritchard detailed his stories of championships past.
