MONDAY RUNDOWN: THE COMMISH JOINS!

We recapped a busy weekend and opened a brand new week with Episode #341 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The World Series is set – Dodgers/Rays, 2) NFL Week 6 Notes – big wins for Tennessee, Tampa and Pittsburgh, 3) Monday Night Football features a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm MT (Chiefs/Bills followed by Cardinals/Cowboys, 4) Ed Hervey resigns as GM of the BC Lions. What’s his legacy?, 5) Joe Thornton signs with the Leafs, and 6) A recap of the Vaderstad Sask Super Series curling event won by Team Dunstone, capturing 88,000 viewers on an IKS production.
  • WHL Commissioner Ron Robison joined the show from his Calgary office to explain the league’s Return To Play on January 8. RP asked why the league is so confident it’ll be able to play? “We’ve received excellent cooperation in all of our locations, but Saskatchewan, it’ll come as no surprise, has led the way in opening up to our league,” Robison stated. “They’re very respectful of the importance our teams represent in the communities where we are. They’re very anxious to find a way to allow us to find a way to open. In Saskatchewan and Manitoba, we’ve reached agreement with health authorities to start play. We’re certain about our start date there and we’re making great progress in Alberta and BC and hopeful that we’ll get to the same position we are with Saskatchewan and Manitoba. There’s never been any concern around the health and safety protocols we’ve put in front of the health authorities; it’s been more of the spectator component that we’ve been working through. That’s been a very critical component to our model of getting our teams started.” Robison went on to answer several questions from viewers about season ticket holders getting seats, what are the next steps between now and January, and much more.
  • The guys played a clip from Julie Stewart-Binks show Drinks With Binks which included Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper in which the former Notre Dame Hound professed his love for Regina. Cooper said Checkers Nightclub was a favourite for Grade 12 students from Notre Dame!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How would you describe Ed Hervey’s tenure as GM of the BC Lions – Good, average or poor? At press time, “average” and “poor” were tied for the lead.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Sportsnet Montreal reporter Eric Engels who went deep on the state of the Canadiens. He feels the club has had a tremendous two weeks under GM Marc Bergevin and it has Habs fans excited for the upcoming season. Engels reported the health of head coach Claude Julien is excellent after undergoing a heart procedure during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He also favours an all-Canadian division next season but advised that it’s not set in stone. A born-and-raised Montrealer, Engels said he’s living a dream by covering the Canadiens on a daily basis.
  • 16-year MLB veteran, World Series champion and long-time Blue Jays analyst Gregg Zaun joined the show from his home in Toronto to preview the World Series. As an L.A. product, he predicted the Dodgers would reach the World Series and he thinks they’ll win it all. Zaun figures Tampa has better pitching but the Dodger offense will be too much for Tampa. He also feels people need to “get over” the Astros cheating scandal from 2017 and agreed with RP that Houston was simply ahead of the tech curve.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Gregg Zaun was leading. Friday’s vote was won by Jeff Reinebold.
