MONDAY RUNDOWN: WEEKEND RECAP AND BIG CFL NEWS!

We shook things up on Episode #327 of The RP Show, Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) RP’s flabbergasted; Sports doesn’t matter?, 2) The Blue Jays play Game 1 of a Best-of-3 Tuesday at Tampa Bay, 3) NFL Week 3 Notes – The Cowboys blow another one and Dupes’ Titans pull one off against the Vikings, 4) Monday Night Football features the game of the season: Kansas City at Baltimore, 5) Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final goes Monday night with Tampa against Dallas in the Edmonton bubble. RP figures it’s must-win for the Lightning, and 6) The NBA Finals will feature the Heat against the Lakers.
  • TSN 1050 Toronto’s Michael Landsberg joined the show from his Toronto home and delved into Point 1 saying of course sports matters, but apparently that’s specific to sports people. As a Mental Health Advocate, he agreed with RP that people don’t take that movement seriously until it affects them, or it’s too late. Landsberg predicted the Blue Jays will be swept by Tampa but figures the season is a win for Toronto no matter what. He admitted that he’s not really into the Stanley Cup Final and doesn’t really care if it ends tonight or not.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: What has you more excited Monday night – Monday Night Football or Stanley Cup Final Game 6? Twitter respondents voted in favour of the NFL while Facebook voters opted for the NHL.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk joined the show to drop several CFL news bombs. He said CFL GMs have voted 7-2 AGAINST pursuing the CFL 2.0 global initiative while it gets its house in order. Dunk also reported that there are rumblings that long-time NFL and NBA executive Ken Derrett of Ontario is being discussed behind-the-scenes as the next Commissioner of the CFL. RP mentioned that the CFL’s missed a step in that they already have a Commissioner. Dunk shrugged and said Ambrosie is currently in a fight to save his job. And Dunk got very animated when discussing Canadian players in the NCAA and NFL and said the next version of the CFL needs to find a way to work with this trend.
  • TSN 1290 Winnipeg’s Darrin Bauming joined the show to talk about a variety of things. As a part-time sports reporter and freelancer, he said it’s been very difficult to exist in the current sports climate. Asked about the Ambrosie news, Bauming said the Commissioner’s track record isn’t great with the costly CFL 2.0 initiative which has yielded little results, the inability to play in 2020, and the failed pitch to the federal government.
