MONDAY SHOW RECAP: #1 PROSPECT JORDAN WILLIAMS JOINS!
Monday was a huge day for Episode 208 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Elite Eight show topics: 1) Today is the 2-year anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos accident. Rod said everyone will remember in their own way, 2) A recap of everyone’s weekends, 3) WrestleMania 36, 4) Trump hosts a conference call with sports commissioners, 5) The Sports Illustrated article on the legal barriers to resuming play in major sports, 6) What if the NFL started on schedule and how does that impact the CFL and U-Sports?, 7) The Bubble Cities concept, and 8) Fans are anxious about their ticket money and what does it mean to ticket holders that CFL training camps are postponed?
- Rider great Chris Getzlaf joined the show via video chat from his office where he said they’re observing social distancing and all safety procedures. He discussed the pandemic and how it’s impacted his family and friends. He backed up Duron Carter’s comments on the lack of job security for pro football players, and said that while he’s at peace with his decision to retire, he still misses the game. Getz also discussed players trading jersey numbers (like Tom Brady getting #12 in Tampa and how Duron was wearing #89 when Chris re-signed with the team). The Regina product also answered many questions from viewers watching on Facebook Live.
- East Carolina linebacker Jordan Williams is projected to be the #1 pick in the CFL Draft on April 30 and joined the show from his home in Louisville, Kentucky. He explained his football road, and how excited he is to get to the CFL. He thought he’d sign with the 49ers but that never panned out, so he’s eager to see what the CFL has in store. He also explained how RedBlacks GM Marcel Desjardins uncovered the fact Williams qualifies as a national player, and said he immediately began delving into CFL history to get up to speed. Jordan proved to be a very well-spoken, energetic player and thanked the RP Show for giving him the opportunity to introduce himself to CFL fans.
- Canadian Football Hall of Famer Alondra Johnson (BC, Calgary, Sask) joined the show from his home in Las Vegas. He discussed his career, and how he was signed by Wally Buono in Calgary for the specific purpose of stopping Tracy Ham. “AJ” laughed that he was able to do that. He told many stories of his career, and said it’s all due to personnel man Roy Shivers. He said the two get together regularly in Las Vegas. Alondra got emotional when talking about his Hall of Fame induction, and said he’s so grateful to the many people who helped him along the way.
- CFL all-time interceptions leader Less Browne was next up on the show, joining the program from Hamilton. He talked about his 87th, and last, pick coming off Anthony Calvillo and that he got A.C. to autograph the ball. Less joked that Calvillo did sign it, but also wrote “Never Again”! Less talked about the plight of CFL players amid the pandemic and the immediate future of the CFL. He also discussed the immense pressure on the Tiger-Cats whenever the club does get back playing.
- Rod and Dupes explained that the RP Show was scheduled to debut live on the Game+ TV Network on Wednesday but Coronavirus has pushed that back. They said they and Anthem Sports execs are planning how to get the show on Game+ as soon as possible, but Dupes wasn’t interested in explaining how they’ll do it!
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Did you watch WrestleMania? Over 80% of respondents said no.
- Viewers now have the opportunity to vote on the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions on Twitter. At press time, Chris Getzlaf was leading by a large margin.
- Monday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page, you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab, or you can listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio stream for SUDS Full Service Car Wash at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
