Monday’s show was Episode #36 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes were joined in the bunker for The Warmup by Global Regina’s Taylor Shire. They revisited Saturday’s 38-25 Rider victory over BC, the opener to a home-and-home series. Shire – who covers the Riders everyday – is a huge believer in Fajardo, saying he thinks Fajardo can be the team’s franchise QB for the next 10 years. He also said Fajardo is the best quote on this year’s team.
  • Regarding this Saturday’s Riders-Lions game in Vancouver, the crew felt that if there’s a term stronger than “Must Win”, it would apply to the Lions situation going into this clash.
  • RP Show West Coast correspondent Travis Lulay joined the show from the Lions practice facility in Surrey, BC. He agreed with the importance of this game for BC, but said it’s important the Lions stick to their core values going into the game. The future Hall of Famer feels the injuries to the Lions offensive line made life difficult for QB Mike Reilly in Week 6. Will they get those players back for Week 7?
  • Former Lions CB Dante Marsh joined the show via video chat from his home in Stockton, CA. He spent 11 seasons with BC, winning Grey Cups in 2006 and 2011. Regarding the team’s 1-5 start in 2011 in which they rallied to win the Grey Cup, Marsh stated “That will never be repeated. Period.” He said the additions of Tad Kornegay and Arland Bruce helped the 1-5 Lions at the time, but the real turning point was when Coach & GM Wally Buono started threatening guys with their jobs in one-on-one meetings.
  • Some BC Lions fans in attendance at Saturday’s game reportedly received some rough treatment from Rider fans. Rod said it’s important that the visitors don’t let a few bad apples reflect all of the Rider Nation. Every fanbase has its share of kooks.
  • TSN 1050 Toronto’s Michael Landsberg joined the show on his birthday. He updated viewers and listeners on his life since Off The Record ended and talked a bit on Mental Health, for which he is an advocate. The crew also reflected on Rod’s forgettable appearance on OTR back in October of 2008. Landsberg also touched on his beloved Argos and said if Toronto’s going to get turned back onto its CFL team, the club will have to try some marketing initiatives that “have never before been done”.
  • The crew also talked about the fire Gainer The Gopher is under for his treatment of a stuffed Lions toy during Saturday’s game. They collectively rolled their eyes that it’s even being talked-about.
  • In honour of show #36, the panel talked about some of the greatest all-time players who wore number-36. The list includes Jerome “The Bus” Bettis, Mathew Barnaby and Dave Ridgway.
  • The show is available now for viewing on our Facebook page, and the podcast is also available on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, Spotify and IHeartRadio. You can also listen on this website by clicking on the PODCAST tab.
  • See you Tuesday!
