MONDAY SHOW RECAP
Monday’s show was Episode #41 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!
- This was another show tailor-made for CFL lovers! Stampeders OT Derek Dennis, Bombers great Obby Khan, Riders athletic therapist Ivan Gutfriend and Riders/Bombers/Renegades alum Mike Abou-Mechrek were all part of the show.
- Rod and Dupes opened the show with The Warmup, recapping Week 7 in the CFL and Saturday’s Watch Party at Baller’s Rec Room. Rod boldly predicted the BC Lions will fire an assistant coach in the wake of Saturday’s 45-18 loss to the Riders in Vancouver. He was quick to point out that a coach doesn’t deserve to be fired, but it may be a move to “shake things up”.
- Abou predicted the Argos will make a head coaching change, rather than a firing in Vancouver.
- The crew debated the Ticats’ signing of former Rider QB David Watford, amid the season-ending injury to starter Jeremiah Masoli. Abou figures the Hamilton offence is suited for a mobile QB like Masoli and that fits Watford’s skillset. He figures Watford could emerge as Hamilton’s #1 pivot, although back-up Dane Evans will likely start this Thursday’s game at Saskatchewan.
- Derek Dennis joined the show from his home in Calgary. He said the Stamps were surprised at the “safety” decision by Ottawa coach Rick Campbell in Week 6 at TD Place, and how they took it as a challenge to come back and win the game (which they did, 17-16). As far as the Stampeders’ run of success goes under GM John Hufnagel, the Bonecrusher said Huff has a tried and tested system and he searches for the proper players to fit in his framework.
- Obby Khan said Winnipeg’s 23-15 loss in Hamilton on Friday Night Football was merely a speed bump and that they’re still planning the Grey Cup Parade in Winnipeg. He feels the loss might end up being a blessing in disguise, and perhaps the team needed to be humbled a tad.
- Ivan Gutfriend regaled the crew with stories of his 46 seasons with the Green & White, and offered his take on the Zach Collaros injury situation. He feels the 30-year old pivot could still be of service to the Riders, but agreed it’s Cody Fajardo’s team now. Regarding the coach he admired the most in his time with the Riders – and the easiest to work with – was Ken Miller.
- In honour of show #41, the panel debated sports figures who wore number-41 over their careers. They recognized Rider greats Tyron Brackenridge, Fred Perry, Ron Atchison and Gary Rogers. They also noted the NBA’s Dirk Nowitzki, MLB’s Tom Seaver and the NHL’s Jason Allison.
- Dupes also noted the online store for The Rod Pedersen Show is now open at www.rodpedersenshop.com. You can purchase show swag now and get a special discount by entering the promo code “riderswin”.
- Nick Kourles won tickets to Friday’s Saskatchewan Rattlers-Fraser Valley Bandits CEBL game at SaskTel Centre.
- Tuesday’s show will feature Riders/Stamps/Ticats alum Marshall Hamilton, CFL.ca’s Matt Cauz, BC Lions podcaster Brian Wawryshyn and Maple Leafs reporter Paul Hendrick.
- See you Tuesday at 10:00 am MT on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
The Blue Bombers have had a veteran club for a few years now. A 5 game winning streak is not unusual. They had one in 2016 & one in 2018. In 2017 they had a 7 game win streak & were 8-1 in that streak. What did that translate to? One appearance in a West Final which they lost. They are a good, not great team. They still depend on Harris running, Harris catching the ball out of the backfield & Adams to stretch the field. So they started 5-0? YAAWWWWNNN. Nothing new here. The bigger the game, the smaller… Read more »
Well said. In my opinion it’s the Esks and Stamps followed by the Riders and Bombers in the west. The Esks shot themselves in the foot when they played Winnipeg earlier in the season. Honestly I see them 3rd or 4th in the west when it’s all said and done.
