Monday’s show was Episode #50 of The Rod Pedersen Show and it included more of your favourite LEGENDS! Here are the highlights:

  • Dupes was back from Rogers Cup in Montreal and joined Rod in the bunker for The Warmup. They discussed Week 9 in the CFL which Rod labelled as “Weird”, and they discussed the rainout game in Montreal between the Riders and Alouettes. Rod said he has absolutely no problem with the CFL’s new weather protocol and Darren doesn’t either, although he added this was a decision made by the business-people of the CFL, not the football-people.
  • Rod was then joined by Riders/Bombers/Renegades alum Mike Abou-Mechrek, and Rider Hall of Famer Andrew Greene. Greene also spent time with the NFL’s Dolphins, Seahawks and Jaguars as well as the CFL’s Bombers and Argos. They spent a good chunk of time discussing the rainout policy as well. “Drew” also told stories of playing for Don Shula, Jimmy Johnson and Doug Berry.
  • Weston Dressler joined the show from his new job in Bismarck, ND and it was a heckuva visit. Weston said the reason he went all-out in practice during his career was because he wanted to burn his own teammates in the Rider secondary as much or more than CFL opposing teams! Rod was always trying to pit a race between Dressler and teammate Rob Bagg however Rider coaches – particularly Ken Miller – would never sign off on it. “Dress” said that’s a good thing because one of them would probably have come up injured trying to beat the other! It was a fascinating interview.
  • Kerry Joseph joined the show via video chat from Hammond, LA where he’s coaching running backs at Southeast Louisiana University. K-J is going into the Plaza of Honour next weekend and talked a ton about his time with the Riders. Abou brought up Kerry’s record-setting season with the Renegades where he threw for 4,000 yards and rushed for 1,000 more. Andrew Greene recalled how he and K-J were teammates together with the Seattle Seahawks. It was another fascinating chat!
  • Regarding next week’s induction, Kerry wouldn’t spill the beans about who will be inducting him at Mosaic Stadium other than to say “it’s a former teammate, and former Rider QB”. The panel guessed that it’s Marcus Crandell.
  • Andrew Greene offered some sage advice for Rider QB Cody Fajardo. Regarding his pending free agency this off-season, Greene said the rising star should re-sign with Saskatchewan and “build something here”. He feels the money which may be offered elsewhere wouldn’t compare to the legacy he could build with Saskatchewan.
  • The crew discussed Monday’s CFL trade that sent DE Shawn Lemon from Toronto to BC. Rod said although the Lemonator has a “reputation”, he’s never had a problem with him. In fact, Shawn supported lots of Rod’s charitable events. However Rod pointed out that Lemon’s Wikipedia page has him playing for 14 pro football teams since 2011!
  • Sportsnet’s Scott MacArthur joined the show from Toronto via video chat for a Blue Jays update. He said the Jays are on a roll with “The Kids”, Guerrero, Bichette and Biggio but said he doesn’t want to hear anymore about “culture” from Jays President Mark Shapiro. He said fans just want wins.
  • In honour of show #50, the crew pointed out players who’ve worn number 50 in their careers. The group includes Rider greats Jerrell Freeman, Wayne Shaw and Ray Jacobs, the NFL’s Mike Singletary and Sean Lee, the NBA’s David “The Admiral” Robinson, MLB’s Jamie Moyer and Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson.
  • Rod mentioned the Regina Red Sox are up 1-0 in the WMBL’s East Final after a 5-4 home win over Swift Current Sunday evening at Currie Field. The Red Sox can close it out with a win in the 57’s park on Monday evening.
