MONDAY SHOW RECAP: COMMISSIONER AMBROSIE JOINS!

AMBROSIEO5252020

We brought in the heavy-hitters for Monday’s Episode #240 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Match featuring Tiger Woods/Peyton Manning versus Phil Mickelson/Tom Brady, 2) NHL planning Phase 2 and opening their facilities to players in June, 3) Tampa Bay and Carolina NHL players being the only two teams to vote against the 24-team playoff format proposal, 4) Is CFL 2.0 worthwhile now?, 5) Is Dak Prescott worth $45M per season?, and 6) Should the return of sports be a priority in society at the moment?
  • Regarding The Match, Rod and Dupes agreed that it was more than a return to live sports in North America; it was also a glimpse into the future of sports broadcasting. Mic’d up players, an interactive component with viewers and a cross-sport analyst like Charles Barkley all adds up to mega entertainment. As far as the importance of returning to sports goes, Rod feels that it can be just as much of a priority as public health. The benefit to peoples’ Mental Health shouldn’t be overlooked, not to mention the stimulation of the economy and ad dollars.
  • CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie was the featured guest of the day, joining the show from Southern Ontario. He discussed what the past two months have been like for the League, the Quarantine Cities concept, and the proposed partnership with The Spring League (he said all ideas are on the table). Regarding how CFL business will look like after the pandemic (tabbed “CFL 3.0”), Randy said it’s becoming more of a factor with each passing day of the pandemic. Rod asked the Commish how CFL-lovers can help at the moment and he answered that it’s a great benefit to leave your season ticket money with the team to help with operations. Viewers from across the country chimed in that it was a very positive interview!
  • TSN NHL Insider Darren Dreger was next up, discussing the latest in the NHL. He said that while facilities are getting ready to open, it’ll still be optional for players to do so. The Langenburg, SK product is in favour of the 24-team playoff format, but can see why not everyone agrees. Regarding a TSN golf tournament, Dregs figures Jeff O’Neil would be the winner going away.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Did you watch The Match? Over 70% of respondents said no.
  • In Hour 2, 10-year CFL vet Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the show from his home office and gave the interesting viewpoint of the players. He feels players in all leagues would be hesitant to get back onto the field because the conditions aren’t what’s stipulated on their contract. Abou’s comments drew considerable backlash from the viewers. Rod and Abou agreed that it appears we’re slowing moving towards games resuming, despite the legal squabbles.
  • Leader Post columnist Rob Vanstone joined the show to discuss his 80-day exercise streak, losing 35 lbs, and life without CFL football. He opined that it’s inconceivable that we’re headed to a summer that includes the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but not CFL football. RV also agreed to serve as the RP Show Winnipeg Jets analyst during the playoffs.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the RP Show Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Randy Ambrosie was leading. Friday’s vote was won by John Frenzy, again.
