MONDAY SHOW RECAP: COVERING ALL THE FOOTBALL DETAILS
It was another whopping guest list for Episode #250 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes got it going with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick 6 show topics: 1) Canada West to cancel fall sports including football, 2) Rod reported the PFC plans to play a 6-game schedule kicking off September 1, 3) Lingering CFL issues (What’s happening? Darian Durant’s comments las week, and how badly does the CFL need to be saved?), 4) Chris Cuthbert hints he’d like to call CFL games on Sportsnet if there was ever an opportunity, 5) Roger Goodell’s Friday statement on being wrong on Colin Kaepernick, and 6) A recap of Friday’s SJHL Draft.
- Canadian Football Hall of Famer and former Rider President Jim Hopson joined the show to discuss many topics. He serves an advisory role for UofS Huskie Athletics and talked about the cancellation of fall sports. He said it’s been a turbulent 90 days for Canada West. Regarding CFL business, Jim said it’s going to have to change moving forward. He also answered viewers questions including funny stories on his time playing with Ron Lancaster.
- Montreal Alouettes RB James Wilder Jr. joined the show from Houston where he was conducting an outdoor workout. He talked about his role promoting the Black Lives Matter movement, how excited he is to play for Montreal and gave a message to CFL fans and Canadians about the future of the league, and how they can help out with BLM.
- There was some backlash over Rod’s comment that the PFC will play and he reiterated that his report is no different from the NFL’s message. The plan is to play unless otherwise notified.
- RP Show NFL/CFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show and discussed growing up in America as a black kid and having a father in and out of his life. He said he’s grateful to have male role models, including Rod, and that he wants to set an example for youth. Tori also gave his thoughts on Colin Kaepernick (he probably doesn’t want a contract if it’s for political reasons rather than pure football) and Tom Brady’s Buccaneers being predicted to achieve 10 wins.
- Saskatchewan Rattlers forward Kai Williams joined the show to discuss signing with his home province CEBL team, playing at Div 1 South Dakota State University, and growing up in a mixed family in Regina.
- Rod discussed watching the NASCAR Truck Series and Cup Race events this weekend and that he has a pool of friends who’ve been following NASCAR for years. He’s been busy getting up to speed.
- The guys closed the show discussing the future of the CFL and Rod said it’s important that the league plays in 2020 for fear of being “out of sight, out of mind”.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: If you were an athlete (pro or amateur) would YOU want to play in 2020? Over 80% of respondents said yes.
