MONDAY SHOW RECAP: DREW WILLY JOINS!
Monday was Episode #98 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup recapping a busy weekend in sports including Week 19 in the CFL, Week 7 in the NFL, Sunday’s NHL games, plus Canada West Football and PFC playoff results. Rod discussed his Saturday evening at the Arcola Celebrity Sports Dinner with NHL’ers Matthew Barnaby and Andre Roy, and shared some stories.
- Bombers/Renegades/Riders alum Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the bunker in Segment 2 to talk about the Riders’ win at BC and the Bombers’ loss at Calgary. However quickly after that, Abou only wanted to delve into playoff scenarios and the final two weeks of the regular season. They discussed Zach Collaros’s role with the Bombers moving forward and Abou said Zach wasn’t signed to play, but rather to mentor Chris Streveler and give opposing teams the threat that Collaros might play down the stretch and in the playoffs.
- Former Riders, Bombers, Alouettes and Argos QB Drew Willy joined the show from Tampa, Florida via video chat and admitted that the Bombers did call him prior to the CFL Trade Deadline. However he explained that the situation was exactly what Abou mentioned; they weren’t looking for competition at the QB position and that it’s Chris Streveler’s team. Drew also said that the money being offered wasn’t attractive to him.
- Drew discussed his career – noting that he’d still like to play in the CFL – and said he doesn’t regret leaving Saskatchewan for Winnipeg in 2014 however he agreed things would’ve turned out drastically different had he chosen to stay.
- Calgary Flames broadcaster Peter Loubardias joined the show from Calgary to discuss this Saturday’s NHL Heritage Classic between the Flames and Winnipeg Jets. He implored viewers that this isn’t about the game, but rather the event. He also said he’s over-the-moon to be returning to his home province to call a Flames game.
- CFL great Adarius Bowman announced his “retirement” from the CFL last week and joined the show from Edmonton to discuss the next phase of his life. He and Abou were teammates on the 2008 Riders and they shared stories. A-D explained how his career took off in Canada, and why it was a better fit for him than the NFL.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the best team in the CFL right now – Calgary, Hamilton, Montreal or Saskatchewan? The vote was a 3-way dead heat between the Riders, Stamps and Ticats.
- In honour of show #98 the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn number-98 and the group includes Nate Davis, Tony Siragusa and Gavin Walls.
