MONDAY SHOW RECAP: LUCKY WHITEHEAD JOINS!
We were back in the bunker on Monday for Episode 193 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Magnificent 7 show topics: 1) A recap of our weekends, 2) Brandon Bridge’s comments on Friday’s show, 3) Starting Canadian QBs now counting towards the ratio in the new CFL CBA, 4) The NFL’s new CBA being ratified on the weekend, 5) The Titans locking up Ryan Tannehill, 6) A Bold Lynch Prediction from Rod that teams will be back playing by April, and 7) Duron Carter’s cancelled tryout with the Arizona Cardinals.
- The Sports Doctor Dave Petrishen joined the show via video chat from Winnipeg to talk about how the Coronavirus pandemic has affected the Manitoba capital, the outlook for the 2020 Blue Bombers, the Jets season being paused, and much more. The Doc came out in favour of NHL owners not paying part-time arena staff during the COVID-19 suspension, asking “Where do you draw the line?”
- CFL greats Nik Lewis and Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the bunker and had a lively discussion over the part-time arena staff debate. Nik said it’s on the owners to take care of their people, while Abou disagreed. You’ll have to watch the show for the full back-and-forth. It was lively.
- Electrifying Winnipeg Blue Bombers WR/KR Lucky Whitehead joined the show via video chat from Virginia. He talked about his breakout 2019 season in Winnipeg, how excited he is for the 2020 campaign, how he’s working on his cooking skills in the off-season, and he also took questions from viewers about Dak Prescott being franchise-tagged (Lucky spent 2015-16 with the Cowboys). Rod asked Lucky if he’d dye his famous red dreadlocks blue to honour the Bombers, but he said no. “They tried to get me to do that in Dallas,” Lucky chuckled.
- Saskatchewan Rattlers President and COO Lee Genier joined the show from Saskatoon saying there’s been minimal disruption to their season amid the Coronavirus outbreak. However he said he’s closely monitoring the goings-on in the sports world, and how they affect the CEBL. He renewed acquaintances with Nik Lewis, as the pair was with the Calgary Stampeders for many years. Genier also talked about his approach to sports marketing, and how the Rattlers plan to use Nik as a brand ambassador in 2020.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should NHL & NBA owners pay their part-time arena staff during the COVID-19 suspension? Over 60% of respondents said yes

Well run companies look after their employees who help them make their riches. Bill Comrie gave tens of millions to his staff when he sold his company. He didn’t have to do that. Jets owner reportedly still gets $14MM or so annually in public funds. When you’re worth billions, it’s not a great sacrifice to pay some PT staff who need the money to pay bills. If you’re not shy to accept govt handouts, you shouldn’t have to be asked to step to the plate in a time of need for your employees IMO. Good for Nik. You get it.
As each day goes by its looking mighty grim the CFL season a cancelled wipeout. Wonder if the league has a high premium insurance for such disaster? Good Rod Pedersen Show today, as always, thanks.
