MONDAY SHOW RECAP: ROD BLACK HAMS IT UP!

It was a lot of laughs, and football talk, as we got back to work Monday with Episode #221 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes got things rolling with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) John Scott’s Tweet that NHL camps will “begin again” June 1 (there’s been no acknowledgement from the NHL), 2) A Coronavirus/sports update, 3) NFL Draft takeaways, 4) CFL Draft talk (with possible modifications), 5) The popularity of the SJHL playoff PS4 simulation, and 6) Episodes 3 & 4 of The Last Dance aired Sunday evening on ESPN. It drops on Netflix in Canada Monday night.
  • The latest episodes of The Last Dance cover the intense rivalries the 1990s Chicago Bulls had with the Detroit Pistons, and Rod mentioned his heated rivalries over the years with the Brandon Wheat Kings, Calgary Stampeders, etc. He related that it was never personal, and that he and Wheat Kings coach Bobby Lowes buried the hatchet the day Lowes came to work for the Pats! As for the Stamps, Rod said it’s a work-in-progress.
  • TSN’s Rod Black joined the show from his Toronto home wearing a mullet wig, saying he hasn’t been available to manscape during the quarantine! This was a hilarious chat where Rod B. covered a wide variety of topics. He didn’t seem too optimistic that the CFL will be playing anytime soon, and said the outlook is even more dire for amateur sports. Blackie took questions from viewers and kept everyone in stitches. Viewers and texters said they enjoyed seeing a side of Rod B. they’d never seen before.
  • CFL Hall of Famer Terry Vaughn joined the show from Chandler, AZ to discuss his illustrious CFL career and said he knew he was making history as it happened. He recalled his Grey Cup wins in 1998 and 2003, talked about his restaurant Terry Vaughn’s in Edmonton, and said he got turned onto the RP Show by fellow Hall of Famer Alondra Johnson.
  • Hour 2 opened with Rod and Dupes discussing potential modifications for the CFL Draft put forth by a “highly decorated” former CFL-type. The unnamed source suggested an American CFL Draft to drum up interest in the U.S. and suggested doing away with the current CFL Negotiation List.
  • Minot State Beavers defensive coordinator Mike Scheper joined the show from his office in the Magic City. The former Rider D-line coach discussed his return to the NCAA, his close association with Chris Jones, and how the Beavers have modified their workouts amid the pandemic. “Schep” also disclosed his diet secrets as he went from 300+ lbs as a player to sub 200 lbs as a coach.
  • 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk joined the show from Southern Ontario to recap the NFL Draft and discuss Canadian players who’ve signed tryout deals in the NFL. He mentioned that since Canadian QB Nathan Rourke of the NCAA’s Ohio Bobcats hasn’t secured an NFL opportunity, his draft value has shot up in the CFL. Dunk quoted CFL sources who say Rourke could be a competent back-up on 6 of 9 current CFL teams. That tidbit has created plenty of intrigue for Thursday’s CFL Draft as Canadian QBs now count towards the starting Canadian ratio.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Would you attend/support the Indoor Football League if it came to Canada? Over 60% of respondents said no. RP said he dreams of a prairie-based Canadian division of the popular indoor football league with teams in current WHL markets. He recalled the Regina Rage of the Lingerie Football League drawing 3,500 fans per game to the Brandt Centre in their one and only season of existence.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for Monday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Rod Black was the runaway leader. Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch won Friday’s vote by a wide margin.
