MONDAY SHOW RECAP: SARAH COLONNA IN THE BUNKER!
Monday’s show was Episode #89 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened the show with The Warmup in which they recapped a very busy sports weekend including the Riders’ 21-6 victory over the Blue Bombers. They addressed all of the Week 17 CFL games, but singled out the Argos’ Twitter account for their ability to make their 55-8 loss at BC entertaining. The pair discussed their NFL teams’ losses (Dallas and Tennessee) in Week 5, and weekend WHL results. Darren also talked about being at the mic for Rams, Blades & Thunder games over the weekend.
- In Segment 2, the show got deep into football talk with Blue Bombers alum Brett MacNeil and Riders/Bombers/Renegades alum Mike Abou-Mechrek. They discussed the plight of the Bombers leading up to Wednesday’s CFL Trade Deadline, the roll the Riders currently enjoy, and what happened to the Stampeders in Montreal? They also touched on this Friday’s Riders/Stamps game at McMahon Stadium.
- CFL Hall of Famer Damon Allen joined the show via video chat from Toronto to discuss a wide range of CFL topics including the 2-12 Argos, Touchdown Atlantic in Moncton, and how long it takes rookie American QBs to adjust to the CFL. Damon said it didn’t take him long in the 80’s with the Eskimos because he came from a pro-style offense at Cal State Fullerton.
- A special treat was Hour 2 when NY Times Best-Selling Author, Hollywood comedian and Netflix star Sarah Colonna dropped by the bunker. She is the wife of Rider punter Jon Ryan. Rod and Sarah touched on all kinds of topics during the 30-minute visit including being a part of Regina’s Ryan family. “I quickly learned I needed to be a better person,” Sarah quipped about joining the clan. She talked about Jon’s adjustment from the NFL to the CFL, her career as a stand-up comic, and the latest season of her Netflix show Insatiable which debuts on Friday.
- Vancouver Canucks broadcaster Brendan Batchelor joined the show via video chat to discuss the Canucks’ 0-2 start and the unveiling of Vancouver’s captain this week. Brendan predicts it will be Bo Horvat, and that will be a popular choice. He feels it’s far too early for Canucks fans to push the panic button.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which Top 4 CFL team will be the most active at Wednesday’s Trade Deadline? The runaway winner was Winnipeg, with over 80% of the vote.
- In honour of show #89, the guys recognized players who’ve worn number-89 through their careers. The list included Chris Getzlaf, Duron Carter, Clarence Denmark, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Gagne and Mike Comrie.
