MONDAY SHOW RECAP: TRAVIS LULAY JOINS!

LULAY4

We were back at it Monday with Episode #231 of The Rod Pedersen Show with more great guests! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A recap of our weekends (Rod’s vehicle was broken into overnight Sunday), 2) UFC 249, 3) More on Randy Ambrosie’s pitch to the House of Commons, 4) The owner of the Portland Winterhawks going bankrupt, 5) The SJHL’s Simulated Canalta Cup opened Sunday with Yorkton beating Melfort in Game 1, and 6) Korean Baseball Organization results!
  • Rod admitted that it was a tough Mother’s Day since it was the first since the passing of his Mom Judi last June. Their family gathered to celebrate her. Regarding his car being broken into, Rod warned people to be extra vigilant in these times. He advised that people are becoming desperate through 60 days of the pandemic and to be on guard. He also mentioned that people who haven’t missed paycheques have a different perspective than those who don’t qualify for government assistance, and/or have lost their jobs. He predicted the worst is still to come.
  • TSN Montreal radio’s Joey Alfieri joined the show from his home to discuss what life is like in Quebec’s largest city at this time. He said that not too many people are talking about the loss of a CFL season YET, but it’ll come on their radars soon. He expressed how much the people of Montreal love the Alouettes. Regarding new Alouettes owners Sid Spiegel and Gary Stern, Joey figures they are in it for the long haul and likely don’t regret their purchase at this time. He also said urbanites in Montreal are getting restless with being quarantined.
  • BC Lions great Travis Lulay joined the show from his new home in Oregon to explain leaving his Lions front office role for a position in his family’s financial services business. Travis, the 2011 Grey Cup champ and CFL M.O.P., said he always had an eye on getting into the business with his Dad and brother (that’s what his education is in) so the decision wasn’t that difficult. He said he’ll remain a strong advocate for the CFL in the U.S. and he and Rod discussed what they can do to help the league at this time.
  • Rod mentioned that former CFL/NFL long-snapper Randy Chevrier reached out to ask how CFL-lovers can pitch in at the moment. Rod said that if everyone does their part, a lot of little things can add up to a lot. A Save The CFL movement is likely in the offing.
  • Ottawa RedBlacks punter Richie Leone joined the show from his home in Georgia and said he’s optimistic about the future of the CFL, both short-term and long-term. He discussed his life in quarantine and how he and Rod became fast friends after meeting up in Phoenix years ago when Richie was punting for the Arizona Cardinals. The University of Houston product also discussed the nuances of punting in the CFL versus the NFL, and extolled the virtues of Ottawa special teams coach Bobby Dyce.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How much would you pay for a CFL Pay-Per-View?: $10-$50, $50-$99 or $100+? The vast, vast majority voted for $10-$50 and Rod said that won’t cover many bills. The spirit of the poll as a “What If” scenario spun off into all different directions and Rod said people aren’t grasping the intention of a hypothetical question.
  • Viewer Jason in Red Deer asked Rod what are his best memories of fan-versus-player confrontations from his years in sports? Rod mentioned Pats goalie Dustin Slade speering a Moose Jaw fan in the face in the 2004 WHL Playoffs and the infamous “Beer Throwing” incident in 2008 between Rider fans and the BC Lions. Rod said he defended Slade and Rider fans at the time, and still does. He asked why players should have to put up with unlimited harassment from fans just because they bought a ticket? “If you dump a beer on a coach, you’d better be prepared to take a Koho over the head,” Rod steamed.
  • Magician Richy Roy from the Facebook Live show Big Time Game Shows joined the show to discuss his digital program which has become all-the-rage, drawing hundreds of thousands of live viewers. His next show is Wednesday evening.
  • Rod also discussed calling Game 1 of the SJHL computer simulated Canalta Cup and that he was reluctant to call games at first but soon realized it’s all just about having fun and being entertaining. He mentioned that hockey people have tuned into the show and said the broadcasts are way better than they’d thought they’d be. SaskTel Max TV is re-airing Game 1 on Monday evening.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Travis Lulay was leading. John Frenzy won Friday’s vote, again.

I watched the beer throwing incident from the top of the east side. One of the Lions called the fans on. The rest of the team was innocent but they need to look to their teammate, not the fans in order to place blame. I don’t blame a player to responding to a fan and I don’t blame the fans for responding to a player that incites in incident.
