OTTAWA REDBLACKS FIRE GM MARCEL DESJARDINS, SNYDER TO TAKE OVER

OTTAWA – On Monday the Ottawa REDBLACKS announced they have relieved General Manager Marcel Desjardins of his duties.

”Marcel was the first employee hired by the REDBLACKS back in 2013” said Mark Goudie, President & CEO, Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG).  “He has put everything that he has into our organization.  His many accomplishments include bringing Ottawa its first Grey Cup win in 40 years.   I respect Marcel very much and thank him for his unwavering commitment to the REDBLACKS, RNation and our community.”

Desjardins, the first and only GM in REDBLACKS history, was the architect behind three Grey Cup appearances – including a championship victory in 2016 – the first for the REDBLACKS since the club entered the league in the 2014 season.

Assistant General Manager Jeremy Snyder, who has been with the organization since 2013, will assume the Interim General Manager role for the remainder of this season.  In addition, Jean-Marc Edmé, who has been with the organization since 2016, will assume the Interim Assistant General Manager role. The REDBLACKS will initiate a search for a permanent General Manager.

After a disastrous 3 win season in 2019, they have shown no improvement and have actually regressed since that time. The REDBLACKS are a long way from their 2016 Grey Cup win.

The challenge will be to find someone who can fit into that market. Ottawa has shown that it can be a good football town, now it is up to the new GM to reinvigorate the team and put out the dumpster fire.
