It doesn’t get any easier.

After the best regular season in franchise history, the Moose Jaw Miller Express were swept out of the Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs Wednesday night courtesy of a 7-4 loss to the Saskatoon Berries at Cairns Field in Saskatoon. Saskatoon won both games in the Best-of-3 by 7-4 scores and are off to the league final for the first time in franchise history.

Not sure what it is, but franchise attendance records were set in Moose Jaw for Game 1, then at the Berry Patch in Game 2. People love baseball around here I guess!

As for the Millers, that was a painful one. 38 years I’ve been in this perilous trade, calling games for dozens upon dozens of teams, but I’ve never seen one as close as this bunch.

But, if you ever needed anymore proof that the playoffs are a brand new season … this is it.

Obviously there are plenty of positives out of it, and chief among them is the fact the Millers will race a division pennant at Ross Wells Park after finishing in first place for the first time in franchise history. It was a true honour to broadcast their games on Flo College Baseball, and to be a part of history.

At the moment I can’t think of too many memories because I’ll tear up but a new generation of Miller fans was born this year. Most nights you saw smiling young faces in the crowd and they’ll be Miller fans for life. Maybe they’ll grow up to play for the team one day.

It was a special team, in a special city. I’m so grateful to have been asked to be a part of it.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
