Thursday Commentary: Imagine

The NHL said it best from their social media accounts: (Wednesday) was a crazy day of hockey.
Please tell me you watched?!
It was quarterfinal day at the Olympics and it was wrought with anxiety. It actually ended up as the perfect day: viewers had the Canada playoff game against Czechia on their TV screens and the RP Show on their phone, or vice versa.
So we all followed it together.
By now you know Mitch Marner scored in overtime to give Canada a 4-3 victory and vanquish any lingering junk out of Toronto that he’s not a “big game player”.
It sets up a semifinal against Finland on Friday.
And to be frank, the USA-Sweden game came with almost as much handwringing as many of us are praying for Canada-US gold medal game on Sunday. But the Americans had to get by the Swedes first and that was proving to be no easy task.
However Quinn Hughes ended it in OT, beating Jacob Markstrom glove side, and the US advanced to a Friday semifinal against Slovakia.
The hockey gods are following the script.
On our Florida NHL podcast last week, I threw out the rhetorical question of who has more pressure to win this thing: Canada or USA?
We all know the answer but quite a few viewers actually suggested the Stars & Stripes. Can you believe it?
Sorry, but all of Canada is on pins and needles during these playoff games while Americans, sadly, don’t even know it’s on.
And just imagine: their team could end up winning it all.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
