THURSDAY COMMENTARY – SIT BACK AND ENJOY

MULTIPLE THOUGHTS TO ENTER EASTER WEEKEND …

WE’VE HIT APRIL AND STILL NO CONCRETE, PUBLIC PLANS FOR CFL TRAINING CAMPS. TO ME, OUR FAVOURITE FOOTBALL LEAGUE IS FACING TWO GIGANTIC HURDLES:

1 – THE PANDEMIC. WE’RE CURRENTLY IN LOCKDOWN IN THE QUEEN CITY AND DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU GET YOUR NEWS FROM, ALL OF ONTARIO IS FACING A FOUR-WEEK LOCKDOWN SOON. THESE RESTRICTIONS HAVE PROVEN TO LIMIT THE VIRUS, BUT NOT ELIMINATE IT. VERY BAD NEWS FOR STARTING THE SEASON ON TIME.

2 – MONEY. THE LONGER THE CFL HAS TO WAIT TO GET ON THE FIELD, THE LARGER THE DRAIN ON THE BANK ACCOUNTS WHICH I THOUGHT RAN DRY MONTHS AGO.

IT STILL SEEMS LIKE IT’LL TAKE A MIRACLE TO SAVE THIS LEAGUE, AND PERHAPS THAT’S WHY THEY’RE SO QUIET.

ON A HAPPIER NOTE, IT’S OPENING DAY IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL AND THE BLUE JAYS OPEN AT NEW YORK. GERRIT COLE FOR THE YANKEES AGAINST TORONTO’S HYUN JIN RYU.

NEW YORK’S FAVOURED, AND THAT’S NOT A SURPRISE. THEY WILL BE IN EVERY GAME THEY PLAY.

OKAY BLUE JAYS, LET’S PLAY BALL.

AND FINALLY, ACTION CONTINUES IN THE DUB HUB HERE AT REGINA’S BRANDT CENTRE. THERE’S A DOUBLEHEADER TODAY WITH THE BRONCOS AND WARRIORS AT 4 PM FOLLOWED BY THE PATS AND WHEAT KINGS AT 8.

AS ALWAYS I’M EXCITED TO HAVE THE CALL OF THE PATS GAME ON ACCESS-NOW TV SO IF YOU CAN GET TO A TV, PLEASE DO.

THERE’S NO NEED TO HYPE CONNOR BEDARD ANYMORE. THE WHL’S FIRST EXCEPTIONAL PLAYER HAS TAKEN OVER THE ENTIRE LEAGUE’S SCORING LEAD WITH 19 POINTS IN 10 GAMES.

JUST SIT BACK AND ENJOY.

HAPPY EASTER!
