ON WEDNESDAY WE SAW THE BEST, AND THE WORST, OF THE WORLD OF HOCKEY.

ROUNDS 2 THROUGH 7 OF THE NHL DRAFT WERE HELD VIRTUALLY AND IT WAS ANOTHER GREAT DAY FOR SASKATCHEWAN.

A FAMILY I’M CLOSE WITH SAW THEIR BOY GET DRAFTED INTO THE NHL AND IT FULFILLED A LIFELONG DREAM.

(I DIDN’T HAVE THE HEART TO TELL THEM THE WORK ONLY BEGINS NOW, PREFERRING INSTEAD TO LET THEM RELISH THE MOMENT).

AND RELISH IT THEY DID, WITH A FAMILY SUPPER AND CELEBRATIONS ABOUND.

IT’S AN AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT AND I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER FOR THEM.

THAT WAS WEDNESDAY’S BEST-OF-TIMES.

AT THE OTHER END OF THE SCALE, THE ONTARIO GOVERNMENT INFORMED THE OHL THAT IF THEY HOPE TO PLAY THIS SEASON, THEY CAN’T HAVE BODY CONTACT.

( … )

TALK ABOUT A LEAD BALLOON. YOU CAN LIKELY EXPECT THE WHL TO FOLLOW SUIT. AND THE NEWS IS NO BETTER FOR FANS OF JUNIOR A HOCKEY.

SJHL PRESIDENT BILL CHOW TOLD CTV THAT THE RUMOUR OF A NOVEMBER 1ST START FOR THAT LEAGUE IS QUOTE, “BAD INFO”.

DON’T THESE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS KNOW HOW HOCKEY IS MEANT TO BE PLAYED? OR WHAT IT MEANS TO PEOPLE?

WE’VE LEARNED BY NOW THAT THEY DON’T KNOW, AND THEY ALSO DON’T CARE. HEALTH & SAFETY CONTINUES TO COME FIRST AND THEY ARE DIGGING IN THEIR HEELS.

PREPARE FOR A LONG WINTER.
