There was lots going on on Episode #287 of The RP Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes got it going with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Dodgers’ Joe Kelly has been suspended 8 games for throwing at Astros hitters (Rod observed they didn’t actually hit them), 2) Nate Pearson shines in the Jays 4-0 loss to the Nationals, 3) The NBA returns Thursday night, 4) The CFL reportedly sets a drop-dead date of Friday on the 2020 season and everyone’s gone quiet, 5) Wednesday night at the CEBL Summer Series Edmonton beat Hamilton 88-82 (Saskatchewan plays Guelph on Friday), and 6) The Jets dumped the Canucks 4-1 Wednesday in NHL exhibition play and it was clear Winnipeg is the better team.
- Sportsnet’s Gene Principe joined the show from his patio and Edmonton and explained he’s been afford in-and-out privileges of the NHL’s bubble around Rogers Place. Gene discussed the Oilers’ 4-1 victory over the Flames Tuesday night, ice conditions at Rogers Place, and applauded the NHL for how they’ve handled the Return To Play.
- Washington Capitals broadcaster Alan May – an Estevan Bruins alum – joined the show from his Georgetown home near Washington, DC to discuss the Caps’ win on Wednesday, their Stanley Cup chances, and revealed Eddie Olczyk has predicted a Dallas/Washington Stanley Cup Final. Mainly, the Edmonton product explained how excited he is to talk hockey after four months of ugliness. He long ago unplugged Twitter and US cable news channels.
- DraftKings oddsmaker Johnny Avello joined the show from Las Vegas to explain the ins and outs and sports betting and odds-setting. The former sportsbook operator at The Wynn detailed his 35-year career in sports gaming and explained how he goes about setting the odds in all sports. He said he’s been an oddsmaker for the CFL in the past and explained how the rouge can make it very tricky.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will the Raptors face in the NBA Finals – Lebron’s Lakers or Kawhi’s Clippers? At press time, the results were around 50/50.
- Rod questioned why Federal funding for the CFL hinges on the league playing games in 2020 and Dupes explained that it’s the Canadian government’s desire to get people back working. We all await Friday’s announcement and both Rod and Dupes feel the CFL will vote to play.
