THURSDAY RECAP: SCHEIFELE, GOLDEN KNIGHTS, BLUE JAYS & MORE!
Thursday was a watermark day on Episode #498 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – as we celebrated our 2-year anniversary! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Show topics: 1) Montreal beats Winnipeg 5-3 in Game 1 but the story is the Mark Scheifele hit, 2) Colorado downed Vegas 3-2 in OT in Game 2 and RP said Phillip Grubauer decided the game, not officiating, 3) The USFL is back!, 4) The Blue Jays sweep the Marlins, 5) Jeff Cornwall signs a 2-year deal with the Saskatchewan Rush, and 6) NBA Playoff notes.
- Winnipeg Sports Talk’s Andrew “Hustler” Paterson joined the show to discuss the Scheifele hit and he gave his assessment, predicting a suspension. He was surprised by the Jets’ sluggish start but feels they’ll be able to come back in the series, even without Scheifele. We also dissected the Colorado/Vegas series and dabbled in the USFL news. Hustler’s skeptical that it’ll last.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How many games suspension should Mark Scheifele get – None, 1-2 games, or 3+ games? At press time, 1-2 games was leading. (The NHL would later announce a 4-game suspension for Scheifele.
- The Silver Fox Kelly Remple joined the bunker for the next four segments and the crew debated the Scheifele hit, the CFL’s Return To Play, the pros and cons of the USFL re-launch, USFL memories from its past incarnation from 193-85 and more.
- Longtime Blue Jays broadcaster and Jays Talk host Mike Wilner joined the show from Toronto and the hosts said they’ve long been Wilner fans even though he didn’t know. Wilner regaled us with stories of legendary Blue Jays broadcaster Tom Cheek, said we’re on the cusp of another great era of Blue Jays baseball with Vlady Jr., Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, et al. It was a wonderful Blue Jays chat.
- The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover as we discussed all the day’s top issues.
- Be sure to join us Friday at 12 pm ET/10 am MT on Game+ and YouTube/Facebook Live. Among our guests is Edmonton Elks President Chris Presson!
Mark Scheifele after that play looking like a crazed blue bug eyed lunitic from Saskatchewan.
Riddle me this riddle me that;
How does a guy with nary a high school diploma become President and Alternate Governor of a professional hockey team in the NHL? No wonder the Maple Laughs keep on losing, nobody in charge with the proper requisite credentials in their organization to run it, same with the Oilers. Just a bunch of cronies running the show.
