THURSDAY RUNDOWN: DUGUAY ON THE RANGERS AND MUCH MORE!

IMG_5705

It was side-splitting fun on Episode #479 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Thursday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with the Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers (the Jets needed a slumpbuster!), 2) The Spring League kicks off Thursday night with a doubleheader on Fox Sports 1, 3) Canada West amends its Fall schedules including 6-games for football and 20-games for hockey, 4) Canada routs Sweden 8-1 in a World Under-18 semifinal and Connor Bedard pots a hattrick, 5) No Aaron Rodgers for the Green Bay Packers OTA, and 6) The Blue Jays win at Oakland and George Springer goes to the I-L.
  • News came out just before the show that ratings for TSN’s CFL Draft broadcast were down 20% from last year. Rod huffed, “What did you expect? For them to go up?” The hosts grimaced at the state of the CFL entering the 2021 season and said it’s getting old. So are the excuses for the ratings decrease.
  • The guys went deep into the Rangers/Capitals fight fest Wednesday night and New York firing President John Davidson and GM Jeff Gorton. The viewers chimed in and it was a wild ride!
  • Flames broadcaster Peter Loubardias joined the show to delve into the Rangers mess and the $5000 fine to the Capitals Tom Wilson. Lou gave his analysis on the pinch the Rangers, and the NHL, find themselves in. He agreed with Rod that there’s no way the NHL could be happy with the brawls which marred the game, despite the tremendous ratings. Peter also dug into the World Under-18’s and marvelled at the play of Canada’s Connor Bedard. He implored WHL fans to purchase their season tickets whenever they come on sale. Canada faces Russia in the gold medal game Thursday at 7:00 pm on TSN.
  • Tech bugs knocked us off the air on Game+ and YouTube Live but we were able to maintain our broadcast on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive. In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff, we continued to kick around the Rangers discussion because it’s the #1 topic in hockey this week.
  • The treat of the show was an appearance by RP Show Rangers Insider Ron Duguay from his home in Florida. The Rangers great had all kinds of pearls of wisdom and said “There must be much more going on than what we know.” The 70’s & 80’s NHL heartthrob hasn’t been satisfied with New York’s play the past couple of years and said their wimpy play against Washington was likely the breaking point. Duguay reported that Mark Messier could be in line to be the next Rangers President or Head Coach and figures he could do a good job despite never coaching at a high level. Duguay got into some hilarious stories about asking for a trade to L.A. in 1988 because he met a woman out there and team President Phil Esposito granted his request. “It worked out, because we got married,” Duguay laughed. A viewer commented that Ron invented the Morning Skate in the NHL but Duguay was quick to clarify, “Actually I invented the OPTIONAL skate because I was never there for it!” Duguay said he loved the interview and is available anytime to future appearances.
  • The rest of the show was taken up by Viewer Takeover and we discussed The Spring League, whether the CFL will play or not (Rod said if the league has the money it says it has, why aren’t they playing?), and Dupes said he sees both sides of the Rangers being fined $250,000.

I’m just about ready to give the nod to Pierre’s little boy Justin to send some money to the CFL and it’s league executives so they may have a semblance of a season. If they don’t play this year, that’s their stupidity and all monies will be absolutely required returneded to the govt purse.
