THURSDAY RUNDOWN: DUTHIE, JSB & MORE RETIREMENTS!

It was another big day in sports and we covered the breaking and latest news with more big name guests on Episode #513 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Thursday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Islanders beat the Lightning 3-2 in OT to force Game 7, 2) Vegas faces elimination in Montreal Thursday night, 3) The Saskatchewan Roughriders announce a $7.5M loss in 2020 (we thought it would be more), 4) The CEBL tips off Thursday night with Niagara at Ottawa!, 5) The Blue Jays have won four in a row, and 6) The Ontario government is hopeful crowds will be allowed at CFL games this summer.
  • New York sportscaster Julie Stewart-Binks – an ESPN, Fox and CTV alum – joined the show from Manhattan to chat Stanley Cup Playoffs and much more. Regarding the Islanders win, JSB said their fanbase is troubled and that led to them littering the ice after the game. She explained that she lives in Manhattan which is more Rangers territory. A Toronto product, Julie is cheering AGAINST Montreal but feels if they advance to the Stanley Cup Final, she hopes they lose in Game 7 in overtime. She also wasn’t a fan at all of the CN Tower being lit up in Canadiens colours. She also dropped the news that she’ll be covering her second Olympics, this time in Tokyo.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Are you following the NBA Playoffs? At press time over 70% of respondents said no.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for Four Seasons Sports Palace, we broke down two more veteran CFL retirements: Hamilton DB Courtney Stephen and Saskatchewan OT Tacoby Cofield. What does this mean for the league? We also examined the road back for the CFL in recovering from the pandemic.
  • TSN hockey host James Duthie joined the show and said everyone in hockey is surprised by the Seattle Kraken hiring Dave Hakstol as their first-ever head coach. Rod mentioned that many were surprised it wasn’t Rick Tocchet. James said this will be a more traditional expansion draft for the Kraken with not nearly as many pre-draft trades as the Golden Knights pulled off and said no expansion team will ever be as successful as Vegas. Duthie also wasn’t surprised by the news Robin Lehner is expected to start Game 6 for Vegas and said he’d have done the same thing. He never grew up as a Canadiens fan in Ottawa but said their run has been remarkable. He also discussed his latest book BEAUTIES, and hopes the CFL will be allowed to play this summer before crowds.
  • The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and we kibitzed with fans over all of the day’s news.
  • Thursday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook & YouTube pages, you can catch the replay at 4:00 pm ET on Game+ TV, listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab at the top of this page or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
  • See you at 12 pm ET/10 am MT on Friday for a Flame Tech Football Friday featuring BC Lions head coach Rick Campbell!

Reading various media news articles on the Roughriders revenue loss –
Opinion – with a straight face they are telling about financial loss but in the same breath out the side of their mouths they announce they will pay for all expenses paid to the neighboring Winnipeg Blue Bombers to come to Regina and practice. Hmmm … can only surmise the riders are looking for another public handout of some sort from the poor gullible riderville people of Saskatchewan.

URGENT! This just in;

The Ottawa REDBLACKS have released linebacker Ironhead Gallon. The Saskatchewan Roughriders need to grab this player immediately, he’s a good one, long term. Rider management, you won’t be sorry when you sign Ironhead Gallon, mark my word. Get it done!
