We were back at it Thursday on Episode #419 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) It’s Day 3 of CFL free agency. How would you grade your team?, 2) The Leafs knock off the Habs 4-2 in a battle of division leaders, 3) The Buccaneers party hard with the Lombardi Trophy, 4) BC’s Dr. Bonnie Henry seems hesitant to grant a WHL Return To Play, 5) RP appeared on the Slapshot Sweethearts Podcast out of Washington, DC and L.A. and those girls know their stuff!, and 6) We’ve got a new partner at The RP Show — Manscaped!
  • NHL Mental Coach and 25-year USAF Army Ranger J.B. Spisso joined the show from Las Vegas, NV to discuss leadership and mental strength. He explained his work with NHL teams and how to stay strong in the pandemic and in the bubble. “For NHL players the bubble was no different than a soldier stationed in Afghanistan,” J.B. offered. Spisso also gave tips for young athletes dealing with a disruption in their careers and said it’s not wrong for the general public to aspire to the same mental strength as the military.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: The Buccaneers team boat party was … A) Legendary or B) Overboard? At press time, nearly 70% of respondents voted for “Legendary”.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and were joined by Edmonton Football Team play-by-play voice Morley Scott. He reviewed Edmonton’s free agency moves, the hiring of Jaime Elizondo as head coach, and gave his take on the new name search. Morley favours “Eagles”. He feels there will be a 2021 CFL season and gave his reasons why.
  • Viewers from across the country gave their grades for their CFL teams’ free agent moves and the most optimistic were Riders and Argos fans. A BC Lions fan gave his team a “D” while Bomber fans said they’re on top because they re-signed all their key vets. Of course Stampeders fans gave their team an A+.
  • Several segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and fans weighed in on a variety of NHL and CFL topics.
  • Rod and Darren Faced Off on free agency and RP said the Riders have made the best moves while Darren opted for the Toronto Argonauts. The Face Off is presented by UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.

The “experts” (Scianitti, Sanchez & Lalji) weighed in on FA winners & GC contenders at this point. They liked Mtl, Tor & Edm in FA, Ham, Wpg & Edm for GC contenders. I like what O’Day has done & I think we have a solid team BUT stacking them up to the 2019 club that was 1st? Are we better with Cofield, Vaughn, LaBatte, 34, Clark, 33, Johnson plus Schram & St John OR Cofield, Vaughn, LaBatte, 32, Clark, 31, Shepley plus Bladek, Blake, Bennett & Schram? Are we better off with Dean & the Herdman twins OR Sol, Judge… Read more »
