THURSDAY RUNDOWN: GINO ODJICK & JASON TATARNIC

ODJICK

We were chuckin’ knuckles on Episode #368 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) U.S. Thanksgiving brings an NFL doubleheader with the Texans at Lions followed by Washington FC at Dallas, 2) Saskatchewan shuts down sports for three weeks and the SJHL suspends indefinitely, 3) Canada’s World Junior camp is paused for a 14-day quarantine, 4) Soccer legend Diego Maradona dies at age 60, 5) NCAA basketball tips off on TSN. Are you watching?, and 6) Ryan Rigmaiden returns to the BC Lions as Director of U.S. Scouting.
  • Estevan Bruins Head Coach & GM Jason Tatarnic joined the show to discuss the SJHL’s shutdown. He reported that his franchise has already lost $300,000-$400,000 this season with the 150 spectator cap, and this will hurt even more. “I don’t know what to tell my players,” Tatarnic said. “Maybe Premier Moe or Dr. Shahab have the answers for them”. Tatarnic basically spoke for all SJHL coaches and teams asking why they’re being forced to cease playing since they followed all the government’s rules for Return To Play.
  • Draft Kings sports handicapper Johnny Avello joined the show from Las Vegas to tee up Saturday’s Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. fight. He’s got Tyson to win in six rounds! He also discussed how Vegas has changed as a sports town with the addition of the Golden Knights and Raiders, but confessed he’s a lifelong NY Giants fan. Johnny also said business is brisk at Draft Kings with odds for NFL, PGA and much more.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win Thursday’s NFL games?
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and we were joined by famed NHL enforcer Gino Odjick and Marcia McNaughton. Marcia is spearheading the “Gino For The Ring of Honour” campaign, hoping to get Odjick added to the Vancouver Canucks Ring of Honour at Rogers Arena. The crew discussed Gino’s career, his off-ice exploits, what it would mean to be added to the R.O.H., the state of First Nations youth hockey, and much more.
  • The topic came up during the show of who’s the all-time toughest NHL enforcer to come out of Saskatchewan? Names included Tiger Williams, Dave “The Hammer” Schultz, Dave Brown, Dave Manson, Gordie Howe, Clark Gillies, Wendel Clark, the Kocur brothers, Kevin Kaminski and many, many more! There’s a poll up on Producer Clark’s Twitter right now on the subject.
