THURSDAY RUNDOWN: KILLER KAMINSKI, FROZEN FOUR & MUCH MORE!

Thursdays are generally a big hockey day on The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – so we hit the ice on Episode #458 plus a lot of other topics on Thursday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers (including Brady Tkachuk’s elbow on Blake Wheeler), 2) It’s Day 1 at The Masters and the boys have entered the Deer Valley Masters Pool, 3) The Blue Jays host the Angels in their “home” opener, 4) More on the CFL’s proposed changes to the ratio and the 2021 season, 5) NFL Notes: Anthony Auclair signs with the Texans and the Aaron Rodgers/Green Bay saga, and 6) Dub Hub – Brandon beats Swift Current 4-1 and Winnipeg downs Moose Jaw 6-3.
  • We were joined by NHL alum and La Ronge Ice Wolves GM/Head Coach Kevin “Killer” Kaminski. The pride of Churchbridge, SK promoted his clothing line Killer Hockey and discussed his book project. He also spoke on behalf of SJHL coaches and players saying these are indeed really tough times but they’ll get through. Killer also sees Montreal as a more legitimate Stanley Cup contender than Toronto.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win The Masters – Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Bryson DeChambeau or Other? At press time, voters were in favour of “Other”.
  • In Hour 2 and the Second Half Kickoff we were joined by Nate Ewell of College Hockey Inc. to preview the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh. The NCAA Mens Hockey Championship tournament faces off on Thursday with a pair of games. Nate discussed how the NCAA managed to play amid Covid and examined the tournament’s storylines.
  • Off The Hosel podcast host and hockey skills coach Drew Kocur joined the show to discuss golf and hockey. He’s picking Justin Thomas to win at Augusta. Regarding Pats phenom Connor Bedard, Drew said the word that comes to mind is “perfect”. The guys discussed the 2021 golf season in Saskatchewan and lots of hockey topics.
  • During the show the Moose Jaw Warriors announced Jason Ripplinger as their new GM. Rod said it’s not a surprise since the Warriors said they were going to promote from within to replace Alan Millar.
  • TSN’s Dave Naylor Tweeted near the end of the show that the CFL never promised to play without fans and a 2021 season hinges on the country managing Covid and getting everyone vaccinated. Rod was upset at the report – but not at Naylor – saying he’ll be “bitterly, bitterly, bitterly disappointed in a lot of people” if the CFL doesn’t play this year because league leaders have been promising a lot of people that they’ll be on the field no matter what.
