THURSDAY RUNDOWN: KIM COATES, KELLY HRUDEY & ODE TO WOODSY

Thursday’s Episode #405 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – was jampacked with some big TV stars! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Saskatchewan TV legend Warren Woods passed away Wednesday after a battle with Covid. Rod and Darren offered their memories and thoughts on the man who was everybody’s friend, 2) The Oilers downed the Leafs 3-1 in a blah game, 3) The Canucks topped the Canadiens 6-5 in a shootout in the Game of the Year, 4) NFL Conference Championship game notes, 5) Chuba Hubbard is in the Top 5 of the CFL Scouting Bureau prospects list. Would you draft him and if so, where?, and 6) There are six NHL games on tap Thursday including Jets at Senators and Canadiens at Canucks (Patrik Laine missed Winnipeg’s morning skate).
  • Star of film, stage and screen Kim Coates joined the program from a Regina hotel where he’s in town shooting his latest movie. The Sons Of Anarchy, Bad Blood, Last Boy Scout & Bad Boys star made his third appearance on the show and covered a ton of topics. He discussed growing up in Saskatoon and being the QB for Nutana Collegiate, asked for a CFL update because all his buddies are asking (Rod answered that they WILL play in 2021), revealed his several releases due out in 2021, talked about getting back to his home in L.A. which has been deemed a Covid hotspot, and said he’s absolutely in love with the NHL’s Canadian division. You don’t want to miss this interview!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which quarterback battle has you most interested on Sunday – Allen/Mahomes or Brady/Rodgers? At press time, over 70% of respondents voted for Buccaneers/Packers.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by NHL great and Hockey Night In Canada’s Kelly Hrudey. Kelly recapped the first week of play in the NHL regular season and said the Flames are off for almost a week due to a scheduling quirk. He said new Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom has lived up to his expectations but he was a little concerned after shaky play in the Flames two intrasquad games. Hrudey and Rod veered off into a discussion about mental health and Kelly said it’s a topic that’s become dear to his heart. He encouraged anyone who’s struggling to reach out for help, and that they don’t need to go public with their battles.
  • The Viewer Takeover segment had fans asking about the CFL’s Return To Play, Oiler fans trolling Producer Clark, and the CFL top prospects list.
