THURSDAY RUNDOWN: MORE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS COVERAGE!

Thursdays are a big hockey day on the RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – and we covered it all on Episode #493! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers (a devastating loss for Rod’s Golden Knights), 2) The Blue Jays get rained out in New York and play a doubleheader on Thursday, 3) It’s nice to see big crowds at NHL games, 4) Alberta Premier Jason Kenney proclaims there will be full CFL stadiums in Alberta this summer if vaccination and Covid case targets are met, 5) The NLL expands to Las Vegas, and 6) NFL Notes: All but the Colts and Broncos expect to play before full stadiums this season.
  • TSN 1260 Edmonton’s Jason Gregor joined the show to discuss the Oilers’ sweep at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets. He feels it was an incredibly close series and that the Oilers aren’t that far off from being the team they want to be. Gregor went through all the Oilers’ pending free agents and said this will be the “Summer of Ken”, as Edmonton GM Ken Holland has a huge task ahead of him. As a big CFL fan, Jason said he’s praying that all comes through for the league to play in 2021.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: What’s next for the Penguins after their first round exit – Full Rebuild, No Changes or Minor Re-tooling? At press time, Minor Re-Tooling was leading.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff the boys got into Wednesday night’s NBA controversy in Philadelphia where a fan doused Russell Westbrook with popcorn and in New York where a Knicks fan spat on an opposing player. Viewers were asked for their all-time fan interaction stories and RP went deep into the infamous beer-throwing incident between the Riders and Lions in 2008 at Taylor Field. (He still defends the Rider Nation).
  • Sportsnet Montreal’s Eric Engels joined the show to preview Thursday night’s Game 5 between the Leafs and Canadiens. He predicted a Toronto win in seven games, so it could still happen. Engels revealed that several Montreal stars are playing through serious injuries and their only hope is for Carey Price to go into “God-mode”. Eric took several questions from Habs fan viewers and admitted the series hasn’t been as intense as many had hoped.
  • Rod and Moose Faced Off on who’s responsible for building a good culture with a sports franchise or company? Dupont said it’s up to the leaders and that includes the Owner, President, GM & Head Coach. Rod felt he had nothing to add to that, nor argue about. The Face Off is a presentation of UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.
  • The final 40 minutes were dedicated to Viewer Takeover and the hosts debated with fans the various Stanley Cup Playoff series, the CFL’s Return To Play and much more.
