THURSDAY RUNDOWN: NFL DRAFT PREVIEW, JUNIOR TALK AND MORE!

It’s Christmas for NFL fans with the 2021 Draft upon us so we had a big preview and mixed in all the other big sports topics on Episode #474 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Thursday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers (a better showing from the Jets, but still a loss to the Oilers, 2) It’s NFL Draft Day! (Round 1), 3) Emmanual Arceneaux signs with the Indoor Football League’s Frisco Fighters, 4) George Springer goes 0/4 in his Blue Jays debut, 5) Dub Hub wrap, and 6) We left it open!
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith joined the show and did his usual exemplary job of previewing the NFL Draft. He predicts Tennessee WR Josh Palmer of Mississauga, ON will be the first Canadian picked. Smitty’s a veteran of many CFL Drafts so he discussed what goes into Draft Day trades at the draft table, and the reasons behind the moves. Craig also gave predictions on how Thursday will play out and examined the differences between the CFL and NFL Drafts.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: The over/under on trades tonight in Round 1 is 5.5. What are you taking – Over or Under? At press time, close to 60% of respondents said “Under”.
  • With the bunker desk adorned with WHL, NFL, CFL & NHL bobbleheads, Rod asked Junior A fans what would be the bobblehead for their franchise? Viewers from across Canada chimed in with their picks and they included Selkirk/Darren Helm, Melville/Chris Kunitz, Okotoks/Rhett Gardiner, Estevan/Alan May, etc.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we examined Wednesday night’s NHL results and previewed Thursday’s games, had more NFL Draft talk, and predicted what’s up for Junior hockey this Autumn.
  • Toronto Argonauts Director of Player Personnel and Draft expert John Murphy joined the show from New Orleans. He made his predictions for Round 1 of the NFL Draft and explained how this weekend’s draft will affect the CFL. Murph also said the CFL Draft is a crapshoot as always but it’s further impacted by the fact they don’t have a firm start date nor roster sizes. Regarding Argos signing WR Martavis Bryant leaving to join the Indoor Football League’s Massachusetts Pirates, John said players haven’t earned a cheque in a year and a half so they allowed Martavis this opportunity. However Murph was quick to point out that Bryant had “better not get hurt”.
  • Rod and Dupes Faced Off on who will have a better pro career – OSU’s Justin Fields or NDSU’s Trey Lance? Rod chose Fields and gave his reasons why while Dupes opted for Lance. The Face Off is a presentation of UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.

Oh why oh why did the Saskatchewan Roughriders let John Murphy get away? Why oh why? Currently a Assistant GM, Paul Jones plus John Murphy in the mix and the Roughriders are a uncontested powerhouse Grey Cup Championship franchise for many years. Why oh why oh why do the Roughriders not understand how to build a successful professional sports club?
