THURSDAY RUNDOWN: RICH SUTTER & THE SLAPSHOT SWEETHEARTS!

IMG_4112

Thursdays are turning into a big hockey day on The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – so we hit the ice with Episode #435! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Dupes led off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers (#FreeMcDavid), 2) The RP Show’s Top 5 NHL Power Rankings are 1-Toronto, 2-Tampa, 3-Vegas, 4-Carolina, 5-Washington, 3) The Bottom 5 are 31-Buffalo, 30-Ottawa, 29-Anaheim, 28-Nashville, 27-Detroit, 4) The Yankees down the Blue Jays 4-1 in spring training, 5) The Pistons downed the undermanned Raptors 129-105, and 6) Mike Babcock meets with the Montreal Canadiens.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Would you hire Mike Babcock to coach your NHL team? At press time, over 70% of respondents said yes.
  • Columbus Blue Jackets pro scout and 13-year NHL vet Rich Sutter joined the show and feels it’s a good move for the AHL to return underage players to the WHL for the Return To Play. He said any NHL team who feels otherwise is simply looking out for themselves rather than junior hockey. Asked if the NHL Draft should be pushed back, Sutter doesn’t see why since most top junior and college leagues are returning to play. Regarding his Blue Jackets, Sutter said they’re looking for more out of Max Domi.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and then were joined by The Slapshot Sweethearts Podcast hosts Shannon Walsh (Washington, DC) and Megan Rachel (Los Angeles). They discussed their show which is only two months old, and being accepted in hockey as female podcasters. Megan said she’s been welcomed as an analyst, but no so much as a fan in opposition arenas! The pair had strong opinions around a lack of marketing for the NHL’s Lake Tahoe games, and felt the event was a fail due to poor ice conditions and lighting. Their podcast can be easily found on all podcast platforms.
  • Plenty of segments were devoted to the Viewer Takeover and there was a lively discussion on the Leafs’ sweep of the Oilers and Thursday night’s Jets/Canadiens game in Montreal.
  • Rod and Moose Dupont Faced Off for UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant on Ben Roethlisberger taking a paycut to stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers for 2021. RP feels it’s time to move on and grow as a franchise with Mason Rudolph while Dupes feels they should squeeze as many years out of Big Ben as they can. Viewers took both sides.

Advertising/sponsoring on this blog/show works.

Last Sunday I had to make a trip to Moose Jaw with my partner. We purposely went out of our way to have lunch at The Mad Greek. Now that is an old school joint which is the highest praise I can give. I had the gyro, she had the souvlaki – the food was outstanding.
