Thursday turned into a real fun day on Episode #306 of The RP Show, and events afterwards! Here’s the story:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) RP reiterated that he loathes when sports and news intersect because sports are supposed to be fun, but here we are, 2) Wednesday’s protests in sports (Rod supports the NHL), 3) Former Rider LB Deon Lacey works out for the Houston Texans, 4) Should all CFL contracts be voided?, 5) Alouettes owner Gary Stern issues a statement saying, “We cannot use Covid-19 to hide from getting better”, and 6) The Blue Jays played Wednesday night, and beat Boston 9-1.
  • The Rollout was interrupted by an impactful hit from CBC Toronto’s Devin Heroux, moments before a Blue Jays news conference. Devin wasn’t sure what the news conference would be about, but predicted it would be to discuss Thursday’s Jays/Red Sox game. Heroux dissected the NBA’s decision to postpone Wednesday’s games and the NHL electing not to follow suit. The guys examined all sides of the issue and Devin agreed with Rod that each league is free to honour the movement in its own way, but isn’t clear of criticism.
  • The rest of Hour 1 on Game+ TV involved a back-and-forth with viewers on which games should be cancelled or not, and the reasons why. Viewers from all across North American weighed in.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Did the NHL do the right thing by playing on Wednesday night? At press time, over 60% of respondents said yes.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by pro hockey player Logan Pyett, Rod’s cousin and former Regina Pats captain. The Milestone, SK product said this is an uneasy time for minor pro league players, not sure which leagues are playing and which aren’t. He discussed his road back from a cancer battle, his time in the KHL, and said he’d like to be a spokesman for cancer survivors in the year ahead.
  • RP Show hockey insider Jared Dumba joined the show to discuss all these topics including his cousin Matt Dumba’s role with the Minnesota Wild. Regarding the potential for Thursday’s NHL games being postponed, Jared offered “This is getting out of hand.”
  • Former NHL goalie Eddie Lack joined the show from Arizona to discuss all things NHL including the Lehner/Fleury controversy with Vegas (he’s not sure who’ll start in goal for Game 3), the fallout between the Coyotes and GM John Chayka, and the future of Henrik Lundquist and the New York Rangers crease.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Eddie Lack was leading. Wednesday’s vote was won by Nik Lewis.
  • Be sure to join us for Thursday night’s CFL Game of the Week with Saskatchewan at Edmonton at 7:00 pm MT on the RP Show Facebook page.
  • Afterwards we saluted Eric from Smokin’ Okies BBQ for raised tens of thousands of dollars for Rider great George Reed in his time of need. The party at Smokin’ Okies was crashed by Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea and defensive coordinator Richie Hall. O’Shea was in Regina to hand deliver Richie’s Grey Cup ring.
  • See you at 10 am MT on Friday for a Football Friday on Game+ TV, Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
