THURSDAY RUNDOWN: SUTTER, GETER & RAZZ!

We delved into the latest sports news on Episode #311 of The RP Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Avalanche force a Game 7 by beating Dallas 4-1, 2) Watching the game was good for RP’s mental health and he feels sports are good for all of us, 3) The provincial election on October 26 likely means no SJHL hockey until at least then, 4) The public doesn’t have much sympathy for NHL players in the bubbles, 5) Terminations and furloughs in the CFL office (Rod said it was coming. Why are people surprised?), and 6) RB Leonard Fournette is now a Buccaneer.
  • Columbus Blue Jackets pro scout Rich Sutter joined the show from Lethbridge to discuss the Jackets’ Round 1 ouster against Tampa. He feels the series proved Columbus is set in goal and on the blue line but could use some additions up front. Richie feels the “non-call” in OT of Game 1 swung the series, but feels it’s just one of many blown calls in these Stanley Cup Playoffs. Sutter previewed the NHL Draft and said Colorado/Dallas is indeed the best 2nd round series.
  • Further on the CFL terminations and furloughs, Rod said it’s just the start of CFL downsizing and we’ll soon start to see it happening at the club level. The host said he saw the fire start and is surprised people are now panicking that the whole house has gone up in flames.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s better – Connor McDavid or Nathan MacKinnon? At press time about 60% voted for McDavid. Sutter said the fact that MacKinnon is still playing is a good indication of the correct answer to the question.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Roughriders DE Chad Geter from Virginia. He explained his exhaustive efforts in promoting the Black Lives Matter movement and admitted that while some people will never change, lobbyists can make a difference by swaying impressionable young people. Geter also discussed how difficult the CFL season delay and eventual cancellation has been for players, and wished a decision had been made far earlier. The Gardner Webb product said it’s been difficult to find a job knowing it’s not permanent.
  • Rider Hall of Famer Dan Rashovich joined the show to promote his Believe In The Gold fundraiser for child cancer research and support. Razz also talked about his best Labour Day Classic memories and scolded the federal government for not providing financial aid for CFL teams.
